  1. Opening Zipped PDF Files using Windows 10

I know the question has been asked, but I am helping a user. She zips 3 files one excel the other 2 are pdf. She zips the files and then to make sure they done she goes in and unzips the file and tries to open the 2 pdf and receives: "Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created"

She is not using a program to zip them. Only the internal Windows program. I've already tried to move the files to a sub folder zip them again then open them and still receive the same message.

    :)

File is supposed to be a Zip file, but it is being read as a pdf

    Hi Nick,

The reason why your .zip files are read as .pdf file is because of incorrect file association.

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below:

    • Click Start, click the Settings button, click
Apps, and then click Default apps.
    • Scroll to the bottom and click the link to Choose default apps by file type.
    • Scroll down to .zip and click the program listed in the right column.
    • Click your preferred zip program to select it and then close the open window.

Let us know if you need anything else.

Unable to open PDF file directly from WINZIP file

Thanks for the help. I tried the suggested steps. It did not work for me. When clicked on pdf files, now it opens with acrobat reader as opposed to Edge. But then I still cannot open pdf files directly form zip file.

Opening Zipped PDF Files using Windows 10

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
