Opinions needed about power supply condition

My second computer tower started randomly shutting down. Then the monitor said due to power supply surge, the computer shut down to protect the system. I took the PS out and tested it with a Digital multimeter and here are my findings, +5v dc rail at turn on, is +5.116 vdc after 7 minutes, it then reads +4.608 vdc. According to the minimum tolerance of +4.750 vdc I'm going to say the PS is bad. The +12 vdc starts at +12.07 vdc and holds as does the +3.3 vdc rail. What would you do spend the money for a new PS? Thanks for your opinions! *Smile

  3. IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal whenever I dis/connect the power supply

    Hi Mikky,

To get better clarity on the issue, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you installed any software or programs on your computer prior to this issue?
    • What was the last thing you have done on your computer before this issue happened?
Since this issue occurs every time you connect or disconnect the computer to the power supply, we suggest you run the Power troubleshooter. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • On the Start menu, type Troubleshooting.
    • On the left-side, click View all.
    • Select Power and run the troubleshooter.
If the issue persists, then probably the issue is with a faulty driver. Kindly installed the latest chipset driver for your computer. For better assistance on installing the right driver, we suggest you to contact your PC manufacturer.

Opinions needed about power supply condition

I need advice for power supply .....

I would suggest looking through this list its quite extensive but the lemon list is far from complete I would bet I,ve used antec, corsair evga, seasonic and I refuse to cheap out on a power supply.. I figure and rightly so If I.m spending some serious money on hardware last place I" skimping on is a power supply A bad supply or cheaply made unit can cost you way more once it fails then it would have if you bought a decent one in the beginning.. Do NOT skimp on power supplys
