Optical Disc Doesn't WRITE/BURN/RIP: hp DVDRAM GT31L does not WRITE /Rip/Burn CD's but it does Play music CDs; in iTUNES does not indicate initializing, but does indicate WRITING but after process completion No advisory on "Finalizing" --CD is ejected as though Successfully Burned, but is actually BLANK . 0-bytes used under Properties. I've gone through a Stack of BRAND NEW CD-R 700 min 80MB CDs the EXACT SAME as SUCCESSFULLY Utilized until now 14July2021. Windows 10 64-bit OS, Microsoft Windows Version 20H2 OS Build 19042.1110 on an HP Pavilion g6 Note

Query related to Ripping Music CD's through network

I understand your query related to ripping CD to Music Library. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the question below:

• Have you inserted the disc on the client machine or on Surface Pro?
  

Ideally, if you are trying to rip a CD to a Music Library that is located on the network then you there are chances that it will be take time to process.



One of the convenient way I can suggest is to rip the CD on one machine and then copy paste to the Music Library on the other machine. Refer the section

However, please let us know the information on how you are trying to rip the CD.

Optical drive can read any cd, can burn dvds, but cannot burn cds since Windows 10 updates

I've had this problem on and off for a long time. Windows updates, and all of a sudden, I cannot burn music CDs.

It plays them, reads them, and runs programs from them with no problem, burns dvds without issue. But burning a music cd results in failure and "write error" every time.

I have tried uninstalling the latest updates, uninstalling and reinstalling my NERO burning software and multiple other burning programs, tried downloading and installing updates from HP (it's an HP PAvilion desktop) tried finding and updating firmware for
the optical drive itself (which is ridiculous because there is no fw update for it anywhere - (HL-DT- ST DVDRAM GUD0N - LW01)

Have tried various "fixes" found online, including registry additions and such.

After the latter, I was able to burn a single CD, and then Windows updated again, and back to square one.

So I uninstalled said updates and used system restore to go back to the way it was before the update, and still no luck.

I've found article upon article of people who had run into the same or similar issues, but in most cases, their drive didn't show up in device manager and/or couldn't read any discs. That's not the case here. On others, the aforementioned "fixes" worked for
them - Not for me.
