Windows 10: option to Boot into Windows 7 or 10

Discus and support option to Boot into Windows 7 or 10 in Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade to solve the problem; Well, I can believe they would do just that. Why? Because as was pointed out in a different thread, it's a free "Upgrade" to Windows 10, not a free... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade' started by zas17, Aug 3, 2015.

MS could stop Multi Booting when the old license is used after upgrading and that'd make sense, but stopping Multi booting for 2 separate licenses make no sense. What if someone wants to use programs that only work with an older version of Windows.

I've been dual booting on separate HD's with W7/W10TP since the start and now with W10 Pro. I've never used Easy BCD boot menu. I've had nothing but trouble when W10TP was the default OS and even when W7 was the default. The trick which some say has nothing to do with that, is to shut off the Fast Start Up option. Before, sometimes W10TP wouldn't boot and sometimes even W7 would get trashed as well. That Fast Start Up is the cause of the blue selection screen at startup, so actually you are booting off the W10/TP drive even though it's not your default OS.

No, I bought W8.1 Pro for $140 and upgraded to W10 Pro and saved $60.

well fast boot or fast start up isnt really a new boot as ive read elsewhere its just like a suspend mode even tho the machine is of. lots of people recomend disabling it when more than one os is installed. personally ive not tried with win10 yet but i did once have a multi boot on one pc with 7operating systems running. no need for it it was just to see if it could be done. even snow leopard would boot. however im still waiting for my dload of win10 from my win7 main install so will see when i get it. ive got the iso. and tried that the other day but it didnt like my 8.1 install so went back to 8.1 on that drive for a while.i do beleive it makes a diference if you mutli boot on partitions or on sperate drives also i think separate drives are better if you can do it that way. its going to be interesting i think when you start changing hardware and see how it all reacts to the free upgrade. i may buy a copy and use that on one drive and use the upgrade on another and see how that upsets the apple cart. i dont think there are definative answers as yet untill more and more people try some uncommen installs etc

Not sure if this is a dual boot issue as well but I had/have the same issue still with the screen not recovering from a sleep. This might be do to the second HD being in a deep sleep. Had that happen once, forced a power down and it booted right back into W10. I thought that it happened again just now but it just took a few more extra seconds to come on leading me to believe it's a drive sleep issue. I also have a NAS that sleeps but I had that problem before the NAS with W10TP.

It is September 1, 2015 and I am back. It has been more than 30 days since I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro 10240 and I am happy to report that all five Windows partitions remain activated on this computer. Perhaps the attached images will help to change some common misconceptions about the Windows 10 free upgrade and then again maybe not.

The images above demonstrate that you can have more that one OS activated on a single PC. You don't have to choose between Windows 7 or 10. In fact you can have multiple OSs activated on a single PC.

Older OSs have not become de-activated after some perceived 30 day grace period.

MS has not stopped dual/multi-booting OSs. As you can see dual/multi-booting is alive and well.

That is the way it is today. MS can and may change this in the future.

From a command prompt enter "slui 4" without the quotes. Or WIN + R and enter slui 4 in the run dialog.
