  1. Options for a Windows 8.1 PC, if there are any

I've got a hand me down computer that I'm trying to repurpose for a granddaughter. It's 10 years old, my expectations are low.....but I can't even meet those. The computer desperately needs to be reset but it won't let me. I get a "Could not find the recovery environment" when trying to reset and I can't restart or replace WinRE. All I want her to be able to do is have some really basic functionality, any advice? Thanks in advance.

    :)
