Windows 10: Outlook 2016 Manual Email Account Setup, Office 365 option? & Crashes

Hello Everyone,



I am setting up my email accounts in Outlook 2016. I always do a manual setup and on my outlook.com email accounts, I use Exchange ActiveSync.







My questions are this.

• What is this new option of selecting Office 365 and when would I use this option?
• When I did select the Office 365 option and pressed next my outlook would crash, any fix?
• What is the best selection to choose from when setting up my outlook.com account that would be great for automatically syncing with my calendar etc. on outlook.com or apple etc.?

How do we setup Office 365?

I tapped on setup and in the list of email servers, I selected Hotmail and put up the credential. Like in NOKIA Faq it asks to sign using outlook but I did it with hotmail. Is it okay? It still shows up option to setup if I tap Office 365 option in 'places.'



Before this I had already setup Email and accounts and using skydrive, but not office 365.

I cannot find my Outlook inbox anywhere on my WinPhone HTC One (M8)

The MS mail account is not necessarily named Outlook. Mine is still named 'Hotmail'. With a live.com email address my wife's is named 'Hotmail'. Go to settings, email+accounts. Tap on the 'Microsoft account' , it has your MS email address below it. On
the next page it will give the account name. This is what is in the app list for your MS email account.

In Mobile Office there is no setup required for home users of Office 365. If your enter the MS account on the phone you will see the message you are getting. On the phone the Office 365 setup is for business users that have a business 365 account.

 

Manual setup for outlook.com accounts is absolutely unnecessary, Outlook 2016 does that automatically in a few seconds.

That being said, if you insist in doing it manually the correct option is Exchange ActiveSync. Office 365 option is for so called workplace email accounts, Azure AD / Office 365 for Business or Enterprise users. You select that option only if your organisation uses Office 365 and you want to set up your workplace email in Outlook 2016.

 

Thank you very much Kari. I appreciate your help. I also found some information that I would like to post as I solved the issue. You did confirm the answer. Doing it the automatic way it sets up the email account as a Regular Exchange account. With that said, a regular Exchange account vs ExchangeActiveSync, what would be better to set up as? I heard that an Exchange account is better and had better features. Not sure if correct.

There is a problem with the setup of email accounts due to the upgrades Microsoft is doing, something like that, and I needed to reconnect my email accounts to Outlook 2016 according to this article.

Reconnect Outlook 2016 or Outlook 2013 to Outlook.com to fix issues after Outlook.com upgrade - Outlook

So, now I am able to set my email account to Outlook 2016.
