    you are using multiple devices and using sync? also you can remove the option from windows to automatically add some (mostly used / most relevant?) icons on the launch/quick bar now and then. you can find that via control panel (got screenshots at home, cant give them now)

    The icon/additional icon don't pop up on our taskbar, Dave. Both Scootmien and I use the Quick Launch Bar (where the icon(s) pop up) which was introduced with Vista (if I'm correct) and continues to be available to create today in Windows 10:

    Both of us would like for that not to happen, as you know. *Sad

    Ohhhhhh, yeah, except we right click the icon and choose Delete from the popout menu. *Smile The icon gets deleted, but won't stay deleted!

    Just having a guess here and wondering if this could be something to do with the auto resume feature added in latest update

    If you run shutdown /r from a command prompt, does it still come back?

    Paul, my problem with the extra icon for Outlook has been happening for quite awhile. I don't remember when it wasn't happening. *Sad

    However, with Steve's help, I've added Outlook to Startup, so I will remove all Outlook icons from my Quick Launch Bar and see if any return on bootup/startup.

    From the beginning: With Steve's instruction, I added Outlook 365 2016 to Startup; deleted the two Outlook icons from Quick Launch Bar; shut down the computer; rebooted the computer and voila! So far, no Outlook icons on Quick Launch.

    I'll continue to monitor the QL Bar to see if this has cured the situation. At least for me, but Scootmien, that may be a solution for you too.

    Now, if I could just get Outlook to quit fighting with my VPN!
