  1. Outlook.com unreachable via edge and IE11

I am having problems on my laptop using things like Cortana across user accounts. The wheel spins and spins when I click on Cortana. I think the problem stems from the fact edge and IE11 cannot load outlook.com or go into things like account settings. It's only this causing the issue, all other sites work apart from these critical MS sites. I've tried changing DNS settings to alternates like google but nothing works to fix this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? On my other desktop PC I have no issues. All language settings and packs are correctly set as UK. Am at a total loss. I tried a restore point but that was no better. I've had this issue crop up intermittently ever since getting the laptop. Sometimes it works ok but after a while the issue will re-occur without rhyme or reason. I notice under family setitngs 'Can't connect to family settings, your user data may not be upto date' sometimes comes up too. It's as if the laptop is having trouble connecting to MS server some of the time

    :)

  2. IE11 v Edge

Running Windows 10 TH1 Pro 10240 having upgraded from Windows 7 through all preview releases.

Currently cannot update via IE11 as wuapp.exe missing (?) but can via Edge. Question is............when Windows 10 is released will IE11 will be replaced by Microsoft Edge ?

My installed IE11 is from Windows 7 days so rather than concern myself about non functioning updates, I could just remove IE11 via Programs and Features and continue to use the new browser.

    Outlook.com not responding

    Thank you for your reply.

I do not usually use Edge but I have just tried it and can launch Outlook.com without a problem. (except I still cannot collapse my folders and access my Profile)

Unfortunately I was unable to answer this message using Edge because I could not log-in with my MS ID. I had to log in using IE11.

It is most strange. There is definitely something wrong with my Outlook.com. I can launch Outlook.com quickly using Firefox and access my Profile, (although I cannot collapse folders in FF either) but cannot do this in IE11 or Edge and this defeats me.
I have not yet tried Resetting Internet. Before I do so I will await your reply.

    Regards,

  4. Outlook.com unreachable via edge and IE11

The machine seems to be having real problems signing into MS. For example if I launch films and TV I see lower left 'Can't sign in'. I think there is something amiss logging into the MS account causing all the issues. Store is slow and unable to update apps, always an error message after ages of acquiring license. I don't really want to have to try and create a new user acc given everything I have setup/installed

Is there a way of signing out of the MS account and signing back in because something is seriously screwed up

    Cheers

  5. This morning my own user account has sprung into life! The family settings no longer say 'cannot sign in' and the film and the app shows me as signed in. So some progress without me actually doing anything! I wonder how long that will last though. But search within settings is screwed up returning no results! The other user accounts are still not biting for Cortana though. You know when someone clicks in Cortana it gives the summary of things like weather and news - well that just spins and spins. Whilst on my own main user account it works. Strangely on the other user accounts search within Cortana and settings works as intended!!! But I really wonder if over at MS there are server issues and the laptop is struggling to get a response for all the MS / Cortana dependent queries. The user accounts are even struggling to login to outlook.com to look at emails within both IE11 and edge with long delay before it finally loads in. BUT if Mozilla Firefox is used then no such issue, straight in. Edge and IE11 both function fine though as every other type of website is normal and rapid to load. It's just anything linked to a pesky MS login that is making the two browsers stumble

i might try rebuilding the search index on my own user account. On the other user accounts I may delete and recreate them. That has fixed the Cortana glitch before but the problem seems to return and it seems to be a time consuming exercise when maybe it's an MS server problem or there is something much simpler to try or do

Ms edge - ie11 emulation???: I have a software package, an installation .exe file, that needs IE to work. Is there any way for MS Edge to emulate IE since my version W10 Build 21390.2025 does not include IE and will not permit it to be installed. Any thoughts appreciated. 181784

IE11 vs. Edge: Does anyone know of a good source that explains the difference between IE11 and Edge? Pretty much all I've gathered is that Edge isn't as compatible with as many web-sites as IE11. Why the introduction of a new browser? Why isn't it more compatible? 48979
