Windows 10: over 40 failed Windows 10 install from 8.1 pro

I am trying to upgrade my "office" computer from windows 8.1 pro with all the latest updates to Windows 10 using the upgrade app from the task bar notification area and it keeps failing. I have several error codes of which ill list. One of them I traced back to My Movies and SQL other people have had problems with it so I uninstalled My Movies and everything that said SQL in my programs list. I uninstalled AVAST! Free and Malwarebytes Premium to try and force it through. I even tried the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. I am very much trying to avoid clean install of Windows 8.1 then upgrade to 10 if at all possible. Here are the some of the codes, I did not look at all 40+ failed attempts.

What's wrong

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop windows 8.1 I have reserved windows 10 it has now failed to install about 40 times, error code 80240020, i my surface Pro 3 upgraded no problems. I don't know what is wrong can someone help????

 

Windows 10 Upgrade

Hi,

I was upgrading to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 8.1 Pro and received the following error before the system set me back to windows 8.1 Pro.

0xC1900101 - 0x30018

The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP operation

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the Media Creation Tool and upgrade with it. That's what I had to do. Windows 10 ISO Download - Windows 10 Forums

Also before you install, unplug all USB devices except the mouse and keyboard.

Maybe disable or uninstall your AV too.

 

using the Window creation media are you starting the upgrade from within windows 8.1 use file manger to locate the setup.exe and start the upgrade from there. This has worked for many people myself included.

 

This will still be a clean install...but you might not have to start with a clean install of Windows 8:

Ill look into this. I am currently trying to avoid a clean install of 8 or 10 but it may come down to it thanks.

Yes I am trying to upgrade using the tool within Windows it self not a boot disk.

as stated in my original post i have uninstalled my AV thanks though

 

well it FINALLY went through using the media creation tool (even though I tried it several times before using that.) the last thing i BELIEVE that i did different was unplugging the USB's so thanks to @UKMedia for that tip if thats what did it i dont know for sure. Thanks to everyone who chimmed in with suggestions to try and help.
