Windows 10: Pad Lock on Temp Internet Files

When I run my disc cleanup there is a pad lock next to the check marks for “Temporary Internet Files 542 MB” This file amount never gets cleaned up and is very large. It's always 542MB.



I have tried using the following with no success:

1. 
   
   Close Internet Explorer and any other web browsers.
   
   
2. 
   Press Windows + R to open Run.
   
   
3. 
   Type inetcpl.cpl and press Enter.
   
   
4. 
   Under General tab, click Delete. . ..
   
   
5. 
   Check Temporary Internet files and website files and press Delete.
   

I have windows 10 on a dell laptop. I use Google Crome for my browser.

Temp Files : Runaway Creation

Windows Temporary files are created by the operating system during the normal course of its running when there may not be enough memory allocated for the task.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to delete temporary files nad check if it helps:

Step 1

• Press Windows key + R
• Type temp and click OK
• Press Ctrl + A and click Delete

Step 2

• Press Windows key + R
• Type %temp% and click OK
• Press Ctrl + A and click Delete

Step 3

• Press Windows key + R
• Type prefetch and click OK
• Press Ctrl + A and click Delete

These temp files will not delete

• What happens, when you try to delete temp files?

I suggest you to follow these methods below and check, if it works:

Method 1:

• Press Windows key + R key together, to open RUN command Window.
• Type "temp" in the RUN Command Window, to open temp folder and then delete the files and folders inside the temp folder.

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

Method 2:

• Press Windows key + R key together, to open RUN command Window.
• Type "%temp%" in the RUN Command Window, to open temp folder and then delete the files and folders inside the temp folder.
  

If the issue persists, follow method 3.

Method 3:

I suggest you to boot the computer to Safe Mode, then perform disk cleanup on Windows 10 and check, if it works.

temp files

Temp files can only be deleted if the have no relation to apps or are locked. As an example any app downloading files for itself (Bluetooth, UCbrowser, Youtube downloader) store their downloaded files in their own area under 'temp files' and if you want to
remove those you need to do so through those apps.

Generally I would suggest using the search function here and something called Google as it is a very frequently asked and answered question.
