  1. Paged/Non-Paged Pool Memory Leak?

    Windows 10 Pro v1909 Intel i5-8250U 8GB RAM

I updated to v1909 from v1809 back in December, and since then, I've noticed that my Memory used at idle and my paged/non-paged pool is significantly more than it used to be, particularly after my computer has been running for awhile. This problem was present in a somewhat more mild form in 1809, but not at all in 1803.

Prior to the update, my system would take about 21-30 days to grow from 100mb paged/400mb nonpaged to ~500/1000 respectively, assuming I just do basic web browsing; some YouTube, some Twitch at most. If I do things like run my antivirus, or a decent bit of troubleshooting (eg lots of opening new windows), it seems to grow faster. I don't recall what my paged/non-paged used to be, but I keep seeing that ~300mb is supposed to be normal for non-paged, and mine is usually about 600-750mb, but can sit at 1GB after only 14-16 days uptime. Neither seem to be ticking down at all when left alone; if anything, they seem to very slowly be ticking up, indefinitely.

I've been trying to figure out the source of the change/problem, but I'm not exactly computer savvy.

I can't quite seem to get a straight answer on what constitutes "problematically big". I've tried using PoolMon, and from what I can make sense of, the largest non-paged thing listed was IAStor, which I do not know where to update the driver for (if it has one). Also, the Empty Standby List thing in Rammap didn't work, either.

I've also tried to see if it was something to do with my Network Data Usage Monitor (I keep seeing it referred to as NDU), as I've seen that be listed as a culprit (though usually with Killer as the device, whereas I have Intel as best I can see) particularly since "Network" has a habit of disappearing from my Task Manager's Performance tab (it also doesn't show usage in Processes, even though the status column is there) after my computer has been running for awhile. I ran the diagnostic for it in Windows, and it didn't see anything. Network still doesn't show in my Performance tab so I don't think it did anything, and I don't know what else to do to pursue this avenue.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it NDU or something else? And more importantly, how do I resolve it?

  2. High paged pool memory after leaving system on for quite sometime

Oh, I see! Thanks for the clarity!

Pageable memory controlled by memory management...that makes ALOT of sense! Oh well, at least the page pool stops at 1.2gb memory so I still have plenty of ram leftover for multi-tasking purposes. For virtual memory, I left it at system managed on C:/ drive. Otherwise, I'll try to update the network drivers and nvidia drivers. I know Killer Network drivers are highly proneable for memory leaks.

Say, did Intel made an update of Intel Rapid Storage drivers for 4th Gen processors?

High paged pool memory after leaving system on for quite sometime

1.2 GB Paged pool does not seem unreasonable for a system with 32 GB RAM. This value is higher for systems with large RAM sizes. In any event it is hardly likely to be the cause of your problem.

The paged and non paged memory pools are used by kernel level components such as drivers and the kernel itself. The paged pool can be paged out at the memory managers discretion while the non paged pool must remain in RAM at all times. Task Manager will not tell you how much of the paged pool is in RAM.

Memory usage in any modern OS is controlled by the system memory manager, always with the goal of maximizing overall system performance. When available memory is plentiful, as is shown in the screenshots, the memory manager will allow processes and other Windows components to use pretty much whatever memory they want without restrictions. But if there is memory pressure it is fully capable of reducing the paged pool usage to a small fraction of it's current value. But it will only do this if needed. Doing it at any other time would serve no useful purpose and would likely impair performance. Note that this is the RAM resident portion of the paged pool, not what is shown in Task Manager which would be unaffected.

High memory usage, even if it is seriously abnormal, will not impair performance unless it causes a shortage. I have seen many Internet articles that get this wrong. It is not unusual for the paged pool to grow over time. Unless there is a memory leak, and there is nothing to suggest that here, this growth will stop.

    Paged/Non-Paged Pool Memory Leak?

Memory leak - PsIn Tag - Non-Paged Pool

In task manager I can see 10GB under non-paged pool:

    Paged/Non-Paged Pool Memory Leak? TohwZ.png

Using poolmon I see the following:

    Paged/Non-Paged Pool Memory Leak? PHoKo.png

Now I can see this Tag named PsIn taking 10GB on non-paged pool.

From here I go to my drivers folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers and search for that tag in the drivers folder:

Where do I go from here??? I can see many drivers includes this TAG.
