    I know there are also components out there that just dont like coming back up after going to sleep. Sometimes this can be due to drivers or the components themselves, most likely the video hardware. I would check that all the driver are up to date and also do some searching on google for these issues with your specific system.

    What is the model number of your XPS machine?

    The problem is back - freezing after sleep. Dell Studio XPS 8000, i5, RAM 8-gig. I ran Dell diagnostics tool and it did not find any hardware issues. But I have a suspicion that maybe RAM is causing this or one of the slots has an issue. If it has 2 sticks I will try to remove one at a time and see if the issue continues. Does it matter what RAM slots I use, do they need to be in some order....?

    Yes, and I would also download memtest86 and burn it to a CD/DVD or a USB and boot from that and use it to see if your RAM has issues. Let it run for at least 3 passes before you end it.
