Windows 10: Paperport 14.5- crashed. I uninstalled. Now cannot reinstall b/c says "serial number is...

I have my paid for purchased copy saved. I have the serial number from this original software download. I know it is correct. But the wizard will *not* take it. Is this perhaps a Windows glitch? I cannot get anywhere with Nuance/Kofax who makes the software. Thought maybe somebody could help here? I saw Greg Carmack had given Paperport assistance before in 2018. I tried downloading from that https://windowsprores.com/ site you listed back then, but that just sends you on some wild software goosechase. Cannot really DL Paperport. Thanks much!

Compatibility problem with Paperport Version 14 in Windows 10

According to what I've seen on the internet the only compatible version of Paperport with Windows 10 is Paperport 14.5 with patch 1. Which means the Paperport version you're using might need to be updated.

Compatibility problem with Paperport Version 14 in Windows 10

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue!

You may need to Run the compatibility troubleshooter. But first, uninstall the program the follow these steps:

1- Right click or hold tap on the “Paperport 14” executable installation file.

2- Left click or tap on the “Troubleshoot Compatibility” feature.

3- After the process has finished, left click or tap on the “Troubleshoot program” feature.

4- Now in the next window that appears, check the box next to “The program worked in earlier versions of Windows but won’t install or run now”.

5- Left click or tap on the “Next” button to proceed.

6- In the next window you will need to select the previous version of Windows you know that the Paperport 14 app worked fine.

7- Left click or tap on the “Next” button again.

Now you will need to follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation of the “Paperport 14” app.

8- After the installation has finished, choose the option “Yes, save these settings for this program”.

9- After the changes are saved, you will need to left click or tap on the “Close” button and try to run your Paperport 14 application.

 

Paperport 14 compatibility with Creators update

One more bit of evidence. Whenever I change the location of an account's Documents to the D: drive, Paperport 14.5 crashes while starting up. This is how I found it:

1. Created new local user account

2. Logged in, Paperport starts up normally

3. Changed the location of Documents to a folder on the D: drive

4. Now Paperport crashes while starting up

So, looks like Paperport doesn't like Documents being on another drive.

If I moved the Documents folder back to the C: drive, Paperport will start up normally!

Note, though, I had another user id that was used quite a bit. I moved the Documents to the D: drive, then back after some time. Paperport crashes for this user account, even though the Documents folder is back on the C: drive.

Just trying to help the next person with this problem....
