Obviously be certain the existing c drive is backed up before reinstalling OS.

When you clean install Windows 10 and it updates to the latest version, I recommend archiving that clean install image in case you need to restore that in the event of serious system problems. Obviously, also keep periodic backup images of the fully installed system as well.

    Hi

i'm about to create Macrium Reflect bootable rescue media, on a CD, is it OK or should i do it on USB?
If it doesn't matter, then i prefer on a CD.
Do i leave the option " Enable multiboot MBR/UEFI....selected, or do i untick it?
    See the photo attached

    thank you

You can use DVD or USB, but USB is faster. Check you can actually boot from the media you create. I'd keep the multiboot box ticked as recommended. I do that and the recovery drive boots fine.

Yep the backup is part of the Plan *Smile ............after the Clean install and then again after running Windows Update...

and yes leave the Defaults enabled a CD is fine as long as your computer will boot from it.....test it after you make it please.

Regarding MR rescue media, in the end i did it on a USB.
And i booted my PC from the USB, by changing the BIOS boot order, and it booted to MR interface whre it says repair windows...
I did take photos with my phone as i coundnt use W10 snipping tool, but i can't upload those photos here.

Does it mean the MR rescue media is good?

yes , if you were able to boot into the MR interface , then that is excellent .

Once Win10 is CLEAN Installed , you will need to install MR in win10 and then do a Backup Image of your Whole SSD to your External USB Drive. Make a Folder on the USB Ext. called Macrium and put all you backups in it. When you make the Backup it will offer to save the XML file say yes as we can then use that file to schedule backup regularly eg once every 3 days.

you could take a photo of Topguns instructions too just so you have them and enter the commands exactly

Are you referring to these instructions ?

    • Boot up Windows Installation USB
    • On the first screen. Hold down SHIFT + F10. A command Windows will pop up. Type:
      diskpart
      select disk 0
      clean
      exit
      exit
    • Continue with the installation, select Customize, click on Disk 0, do not format then click Next, Windows Installation will create all needed partitions then install Windows.

If yes, step 1, boot up to Windows USB, how do i do this? do i insert the USB and boot from it by changing the order in BIOS ?
Is that what it means ?

    Thanks

    1. Yes same as you booted the MR USB , you can use F8 for the boot menu (most computers) or set the USB to boot 1st ,cdrom 2nd and HDD/SSD 3rd in the bios permanently.

If given the option at Boot you want the USB Key with the UEFI option if there is one assuming the MB is in UEFI Mode , so Win10 installs in UEFI Mode.
