Windows 10: Pascal Benchmarks

Looks like that "67c at 2000Mhz" that Nvidia showed off at the announcement was aided by something like an aggressive fan profile or secondary cooling. That's disappointing.

Single card benchmarks for the FE cards aren't as good as I'd hoped they'd be. Looks like I may be grabbing a cheap 980Ti for SLI until the 1080Ti drops unless AIB cards are significantly better than FE cards.

  3. That's exactly right, disappointing indeed. If you look at Hardware Canuck's site I believe they were able to reproduce Nvidia's presentation numbers but it required setting the fan at 100%. They also did some overclocking (the new way with Pascal) and I believe they spent two hours getting the overclock "right".

The "impression given" that at defaults the card will hit 2100 Mhz and be at a cool 67c is bull crap. Every website reviewer noticed the card hits 80c+ quickly and throttles back. From what I read it is a good card though but definitely a 980Ti overclocked comes close to the 1080 performance. Most I've seen with 980TI's are waiting to see what the 1080 TI has to offer.

    #1 is my 980G1 SLI
    #2 is a GTX 1080

Now keep in mind i am overclocked and using a 6700k while this guy is using a i5-6600k

  5. Data starting to come in on pricing and specs on AIB boards. This is from wccftech:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Custom / Non-Reference Models Round-Up - TwinFrozr VI, WindForce Xtreme, ROG STRIX, ACX 3.0, AMP, iChill and A Lot More

But I also pulled the following from legit reviews on EVGA models and pricing:

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Video Cards Arrive With 4 Models To Choose From! - Legit Reviews

So this is saying we will have AIB boards with better cooling, better clocks and in many cases lower prices than the $699 Nvidia reference "Founders Edition".

Someone answer me this. Who is buying that reportedly "sold out" Founders Edition card?

  7. That's a good question. EVGA's site has been up and down most of the morning. At this point, I've just decided to hold out for a while. See what comes along with AIB and 1080Ti cards.

  9. I heard the EVGA site was struggling with the number of hits its been getting today. Overclockers UK is listing details and prices (pounds) on pretty much all of them.

    Check out this link:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 | Overclockers UK

I'm going to get one of these. I am very tired of 770 Kepler SLI in a DX12 world that makes me deal with a one card 2GB scenario. Being mainly a Full HD 1080P gamer I figure one of these should handle my needs easily so I'm not waiting for 1080 TI and related pricing.

Question is, which one. I'm liking the Asus Strix, EVGA ACX 3.0 and look at that there are a couple like the MSI Gaming X RGB with an 8 pin and 6 pin connector.

Would like to see if they can maintain "just" their boost clocks without throttling back too much.

  10. I really wish Microcenter hadn't cancelled my order on that 980Ti I bought, as EVGA has added 3 of their 1080 models to the Step Up Program. That probably would have triggered me into getting one.

I'm really leaning towards just grabbing a dirt cheap 980Ti in the currently flooded used market and running SLI, despite all the little issues that come with it. I figure that will work well enough for me, and isn't overkill anymore since I've moved up to 1440p/144Hz.

  12. Lots of reviews on the 1070 coming in now. No doubt in my mind that it's a good card (as is the 1080). Guess we will soon see the AIB pricing on the 1070. It should be positioned as a main stream gaming card, the one most can afford so we will see if it becomes as popular as the 970 was.

As far as the 1070 being faster than the 980TI, seems so under certain benchmarking conditions. I'm sure you have noticed that the NV "fan sites" seem to be reluctant to bench Pascal against OC 980TI's. The 980TI from what I've seen can run stable at 145X MHZ. Take a look at these numbers with the 980TI at 1430MHZ.

Most gamers I know with 980TI's are waiting for the 1080TI to come out. But as I mentioned before these gaming purchase decisions are about what makes each person happy. No "wrong" move IMO as long as we do our research. Best move for me is likely a 1070 but I will probably still go with a 1080.

Ive pre ordered the Asus ROG Strix 1080 the "founders" edition is only about 2% faster than my current 980ti the strix will give me the 20% boost over mine which will hopefully improve with driver updates , its difficult because the longer we hold on to out old tech the more money we lose on the second hand market , if i sell now i could get 400 quid if i wait who knows

  15. I bit of info coming out of Computex on the 1080 Asus Rog Strix. The feature to have your card control PCI fans is interesting.

Here's a link to the video. Couple of, ah, "distractions" in the background. At least for me.
