Windows 10: "Password incorrect" when attempting to log in to admin account in recovery password is not...

Hi there -


For the past week or so I've been dealing with some file system corruption errors, which has required a restart so that Windows can make repairs. When Windows is done scanning and repairing my drive, it launches into an additional recovery mode to complete the process, presumably something to do with startup repair or something similar.

However, at this stage I'm required to log in to my Windows account to continue. There is only one account listed, and it's my primary admin account. This account is linked to my online Microsoft account as well, something I confirmed through the Windows account and password manager. In any case, no matter what password I use, I am told the password is incorrect. This includes my actual password that I use to log in to my Microsoft account which is shared between my desktop and laptop admin accounts, since both use my Microsoft account login info, as well as every other iteration of the password that I've used in the past that I can think of. Absolutely nothing works. I've double- and triple-checked my password each time, and I am 100% certain I'm entering it correctly.


Fortunately I can get into Windows just fine by restarting rather than continuing with the final stage of repairs I use a PIN, so I don't have to enter my password, but then again I continue to have file system errors, so it would probably be for the best if I could actually log in and finish the repair process. Also, not being able to log in when in recovery mode has concerning implications for future issues.

Anyone have any ideas on how to figure out what exactly my password is set as? Are there any defaults that Windows might use if it somehow loses my original password? I'm genuinely convinced at this point that this is a bug, not user error.

hdd password recovery

howdy. if this isnt the right forum please move it.
a friend has a 3 year old hp or compaq tower. they called me to help. they are not able to get into the admin accound, because the password was changed. it was changed by them when a popup told them for security they should change thier password.
after it was changed they could no longer get into the admin account with the password they changed it to, and the computer started sending out emails to everyone on her address list with porn and viagara type adds.
i ran anti virus and we found 20 trogans, virus, ect. everything comes back clean now, but we still cant get into asdmin account to format drive.she doesnt have a vista system disc, just the recovery partition.
1.. is there a way to get the password?

2... if not can i install a new hdd and install from her recovery partition?

3...will i be able to install new hdd and install vist from my disc or is the mb set up to not alow that?

ok changed added admin password for d in safe mode!
Ok, now this is weird: XP repair will not accept my new password! WTF?
