Password Protected Sharing stays on even after turning it off.

    Hello Everyone,

I have a problem in which I turn off the password protected sharing in the advance sharing settings. For some reason when I go back and check it, it's on again.

I found a solution online about setting a password with a the guest user but it is only a temporary fix cause it comes back again after a couple of weeks. This is very annoying and this started once I went to windows 10 pro.

I wanted to know if there was a more permanent solution to this or if anyone else is experiencing this.

    Thanks

    :)

Cannot turn off the password protected sharing. The option for password protected sharing is not there

    Hi Ankit,

Is this the exact process/steps you are using?

    Open Control Panel

Go to Network and Sharing Center

Select Change advanced sharing settings in the left pane

Expand the network you want to disable password protected sharing on by clicking the down arrow on the right of the profile

Select 'Turn off password protected sharing' and then click Save changes.

Network Sharing prompts for password (Password protected sharing turned off) - Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

As you’ve already turned off password protected sharing, this issue could be due to the incorrect cached credentials stored on the PC. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works.

    • Open Control Panel and categorize to view by
      small icons.
    • Click on User Accounts and choose your
      User Name.

    • On the left pane, click on Manage your credentials.
Under Windows Credentials, remove the shared computer credentials and save the changes.
    • Exit Control Panel and restart the machine to see if the issue persists.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards,

Password Protected Network Sharing Won't Stay Turned Off

    Hi,

I have two Windows 10 computers that used to communicate beautifully but now having problems. MARK-PC1 is a desktop on a wired network. PC-121214 is a NUC connected to my TV via HDMI and is connected to the internet by wifi. The NUC shows on the desktop
and the desktop shows on the NUC, but when I try to go to the Music folder on the desktop using the NUC I get the enter my Network Credentials dialogue.

Did some Googling, tried to turn of Password Protected Sharing on the desktop and it won't stay off. It is off on the NUC.

More Googling, used the command prompt (admin) to turn off Guest account. Guest account disappears from the start menu but as soon as I go to Network Sharing and turn off Password Protected Sharing, the Guest account logo shows back up...!!and Password
Protected Sharing returns to ON. Yikes.

So, I cannot reach my desktop which has all my media to play on my NUC through the TV sound system.

Just discovered that the NUC sees the MARK-PC1 Media Device and it will play music but only through Windows Media Player, I used to play my library through Groove Music, but Groove cannot find the files.

Is this due to the recent updates? No more Home Group.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Mark
