Windows 10: Password Typing

Well in my years of working on computers this is a new one for me. I have someone with a laptop Windows 10, all updates are current, just went through an update this morning. When I remote into this laptop I can type passwords anywhere on the system. The laptop itself can type anything but a password, not to log in, not on any software, no passwords will type on any website we try to log into. As I said we can type on anything else, Word, Excel, Gmail, Browser Address Bar, Browser Search Bar, but when we get to a login screen, then it cannot type. Even logging into Windows did not allow me to

You can reset your password following the next steps:

• Reboot your computer / Turn your computer on.
• Hold down the Shift key at the start of the boot process to enable the GNU GRUB boot menu (if it does not show)
• Press ESC at the GNU GRUB prompt.
• Press e for edit.
• Use the Arrow keys to highlight the line that begins with kernel and press the e key.
• Go to the very end of the line and add rw init=/bin/bash
• Press Enter and then press b to boot your system.
• Your system will boot up to a passwordless root shell.
• Type in passwd yourusername
• Set your new password.
• Restart your system.

 

why doesn't my bitlocker make me type a password?

Please follow these steps and check if that helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to start the BitLocker Device Encryption service.

Follow the below steps:

1. Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.

2. Type services.msc and hit Enter.

3. Search for BitLocker Device Encryption service.

4. Double click on BitLocker Device Encryption service and click on Start button.

5. Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to Automatic.

If the issue persists then change the password and change the settings on how drive is unlocked at startup.
