  1. Pausing updates? So much for that. It's updating at boot, now again at shutdown

Three machines two of which are *not* MS pro so it's a constant battle with MS "DENIAL OF SERVICE" attacks with updates. Hours and hours and hours. So on my laptop, the updates are in theory paused until in November.

Today it ran updates when it booted, it's running updates as I try to shutdown and get going out of the house. PLUS, my working hours are clearly set, right now being one of the.

MS -- this is DENIAL OF SERVICE pure and simple. My machine. Let ME decide what happens to it.

I fear MS more than I do attacks from "bad guys"

    :)

Alienware Area 51 m15x BIOS Update Released

If you were among the group of people experiencing overheating issues with your Alienware Area 51 m15x laptop, then there are some good news for you. A new BIOS update, version X29b P3A30 is now available. The update allegedly allows VGA fans to increase up to 5400 rpm and thus better cool the GPU. To obtain the new BIOS, you'll need to email the m15x support line (L: Area51_m15x@alienware.com). In reply you should receive a link to the BIOS .zip archive. Once you download the small file, Alienware recommends to follow the steps described in the Read full story marker.

Open Nero Ultra Edition, click Backup, and then click “Burn Image to Disc.” Next, select the file “m15x_x29b.iso from the unzipped folder.

    • Plug your AC adapter in
    • Disconnect all third-party peripherals
    • Don’t turn off the computer or restart it during the update
    • Don’t eject your DVD/Blu-ray drive during the update.
    Steps:
    • Open BIOS by tapping F12 during boot
    • Set BIOS to boot from your CD-ROM drive first
    • Save and exit
    • Upon reboot, the BIOS flash update will proceed
    • Click “Yes” through the prompts

Pausing updates? So much for that. It's updating at boot, now again at shutdown

    How to shutdown WITHOUT updating?

    Hi Troy,

I understand if Windows Updates have disrupted your business. Please do understand that these updates are needed to make sure that you're protected and have the latest features that you need to make your Windows 10 experience the best. What I can suggest
for you is the following options so that the update installation won't affect your work.

Option 1: Schedule a restart or pause updates.

This option lets you schedule the restart for a more convenient time. Here are the steps:

    1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update.
    2. Select Schedule the restart and choose a time that's convenient for you.
If you're on Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, you can choose to temporarily pause updates from being downloaded and installed:

    1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security> Windows Update . Under Update settings, select Advanced options.
    2. Turn on Pause updates. Note: After a certain amount of time, or after canceling a pause, you'll need to install the latest updates before you can pause updates again.

Option 2: Set active hours to install updates.

This option advises Windows on what hours you're typically using the PC. Updates and restarts will not happen during these hours. Follow these steps:

    1. Select the Start button, select Settings> Update & security> Windows Update, then select Change active hours.
    2. Choose the start time and end time for active hours, and then select Save.

Do let me know if there's anything else you need or if you have further questions.
