Windows 10: PC Booting from wrong drive since update

I just installed the new windows 10 update but now my PC is booting from my C drive when it was usually going from my D drive so all my user setting and files are still on the D drive. They are accessible but it is a bit annoying that everything has changed around and all my personal changes have been undone. How do I fix this?

Windows 7 booting off wrong drive?!?!?

I have two hard drives, a 1.5TB drive, and a 160GB drive. Windows is installed on the 1.5TB drive, as are all my files and programs. The 160GB drive has a bunch of old files, and apparently the bootmgr and boot folder. Nothing else is on the 160GB drive, other than media files etc.

If I remove the 160GB drive from the machine, windows refuses to boot, plug it back in, it works fine. The setup with two hard drives I have now is temporary, as the 160GB drive will go into another machine.

My question is, can someone give me a step by step on how to make windows force to boot off the 1.5TB drive, ignoring the 160GB drive in the boot process completely?
I don't know how to do this in Windows 7, on XP I would just run the /fixmbr command and its related ones.

Any help would be appreciated.

Note: I would really really rather not have to wipe and reinstall, I know it can be done without one as I've had this issue with XP before.

 

USB boot for bios update

Did the first step. It already doesn't work. Note the capacities and drive letters M:/N: The HP utility is about to format my raid-1 volume containing my 2 750gb drives. It thinks it's the usb stick. I can not select any other drives in the HP utility. My 512mb usb stick is U:.

Any other suggestions?

 

Win10 Reset This PC/Recovery Drive fails, overwrites wrong drive!

Thank you for taking the time to reply, but the problem isn't with the drive/hardware.

My problem is the Windows created USB recovery drive (Reset This PC) is writing to THE WRONG DRIVE.

I just replaced the NVMe drive and have a brand new blank drive that I'd like to re-install onto using the USB recovery drive.

The NVMe drive never gets written to. Instead the HDD which is a data drive got repartitioned.

I can see on the HDD (the wrong drive) that the "Just remove my files" process:

• created a new partition table on the HDD
• wrote about 22 GB of windows installation and logs.
• never wrote the boot files so it isn't bootable.
