PC bricked after latest Windows update - Additional things to try?

Two nights ago my son's Win10 computer installed updates during shutdown. I'm not sure what updates they were. Upon rebooting in the morning the computer would post, show the windows logo with the spinner for 5 seconds, then freeze. After a few of these it went into diagnostic and self repair modes and was unable to find/fix anything on it's own. Going into advance settings I tried uninstalling updates could not find any and doing a system restore found a restore point on C: but could not select it, all from the repair console. It also would not boot into safe mode, behaving the same way. I was able to get to the command prompt and noticed that the boot SSD had now been changed to E:, and there was a new 100M C: with nothing on it. The former E drive 1TB storage drive was now something else. Thinking drive assignments might be the issue I manually reassigned the drive letters using DISKPART, making the SSD the C: drive again, and tried running system restore manually. Unfortunately it failed to launch correctly. Rebooting again created the same blue screen errors a couple different critical error codes, lock ups, failed self repair, etc. It also recreated the disk assignment problem that I had manually undone.

As a last attempt I created a bootable USB using Media Creation Tool so I could run repairs, but it would not even boot off the USB when UEFI USB was selected from the boot manager same lock-up error. Since I can't even boot off a USB with the install ISO I don't even know I'll reinstall Windows on this thing.

Any suggestions for things I can try? I've seen this same problem reported a lot recently, and it always seems to end in "fresh install of windows". I can't even seem to be able to do that. This is an i7 gaming machine that wasn't cheap, and I'm going to be unhappy if it's now a parts donor.

    Help!

    :)

  3. Latest May Update Brick my PC

The latest update bricked my PC...twice. I re installed everything and none repair tools worked.

The computer rebooted after the update and is left hanging with the spinning circle

Got everything running again, things like reinstalling one drive a complex pain

All working ad apps reinstalled after a days work.

Then a new update came down again, and on reboot back to square one with spinning circle.

Unplugged all other drives, Sill no luck

Boot repair disk fails to offer any solutions.

Help! I do not want to waste another day reinstalling it all
