  1. Pc can't boot from newly cloned SSD

I cloned my OS and data from an old ssd to a new one using minitool partition wizard. Once done, I shut down my computer and made sure the only drive connected was the clone SSD. I turned on my pc and it doesn't get past the no logo loading dots, it just keeps doing indefinitely. I shut it down, removed the ssd and plugged the old one and it booted fine. The clone ssd just refuses to boot.I deleted all of its partitions and started from the beginning and the same thing happened. Then i tried it AGAIN and still nothing. I then tried to just clone the system files and it still wont boot, the dri

  2. Unable to boot Windows after cloning it to SSD

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while booting the PC after cloning Windows to new SSD. I would like to know what happens when you try to boot the PC to desktop using SSD?

The reason you are not able to boot the PC is that the files required to boot Windows are still recognizing the HDD as the main drive. I would suggest you to try rebuilding the BCD files and see if you are able to boot the PC using
    SSD.

Kindly follow the steps below to rebuild the BCD.

    1. Create a bootable media and boot the PC using the media.
    2. On the Install Windows screen, select Next >
      Repair your computer.
    3. On the System Recovery Options screen, select
      Troubleshoot
      > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
    4. Now type in the commands and hit enter: BOOTREC /FIXMBR

      BOOTREC /FIXBOOT

      BOOTREC /scanos

      BOOTREC /rebuildbcd
    5. Restart the PC.

If the issue persists, please get back to us with the results of the troubleshooting steps to assist you further.

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

Part of how I keep my SSD fast is to clone it to a platter drive, then clone back. You just want to make sure that you are only cloning teh used space, and not the empty space.

So, again, I isntall Windows to the ssd. Clone to platter drive, then clone back.

I am not sure why, but if I do not do the clone step, the drive's speed, and windows booting, decreases substantially within a week or so.

I am using a Corsair F60 SSD and a Western Digital 500AAKS as drives, and using the free version of Acronis that WD provides, if any of that matters. I am not sure, at this point.

Can't boot from newly cloned SSD drive

Hi, most common topic probably, sorry !

I'll try to spare the details, but I've got the point where I have successfully cloned my old 250GB NVME SSD OS drive to a new 1TB NVME SSD drive and got it to boot in my old PC, but cannot get it to boot or even be spotted in BIOS of new motherboard.

    Old system MBR.
So I formatted new SSD as MBR and migrated old to new using Macrium Reflect in WinPE mode.
Checked and booted ok in old system.
Put in new system, not visible.
Changed from MBR to GPT using Disk Manager and still not visible in new system.

I know the problem is with partitions and FAT32 format for boot partition.....? yes? can you tell me this is the right actions :-

DISK0 = my current MBR OS system on 250GB drive
DISK7 = the newly cloned OS system from disk0. This booted OK in old system. Now changed format to GPT (DiskGenius). Not booting yet in new system (UEFI).
DISK8 = i have another drive with Win11 that boots OK in the new PC (with UEFI).

I can see the partitions don't match. Partly due to Win10 and Win11 differences I guess? and I see partition formats (MBR/GPT) are not all the same.

    • Is this right ?
    • Is the first partition 1, not 0?
    • Do I do this all in WinPE environment?
    • Do i resize other partitions as well?

    diskpart
    select disk 7
    select par 1
    del par override
    create partition EFI size=100
    format quick fs=FAT32
    assign letter=Z
    exit

    Next, rebuild BCD, type:
    bcdboot D:\Windows /s Z: /f UEFI
    mountvol Z: /D

    BIG THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
