Hi All,I have recently encountered a problem with consistent crashes which I cant seem to get to the bottom of.When using 3.5mm jack audio on my speakers, seemingly randomly the sound will repeat about twice a second, then the screen freezes, then the pc either dies or bluescreens. Reliabilty Monitor says it's due either to DAX3API.exe, or LiveKernelEvent code 144. Event Viewer gives me event ID 10111 or 10110. Sometimes 41. The crashes are incredibly infrequent when I use my USB headset. So far I have tried re-installing windows, discharging static, flashing BIOS, manually and automatically u

  2. Audio issues, seemingly not driver related.

So, I ran the sound troubleshooter again, just because I could. This was after I had plugged in and then removed a pair of USB headphones.

    I get this response.

HDMI audio is definitely set as the default, and the sound settings are telling me that its connected to the AV Receiver, so now the troubleshooter is obviously lying to me in a completely different way than before. I ran this again just to be sure, and got identical results.

So here it is trying to tell me it's been looking for the headphones, of which it isn't set to use at the moment. Oddly enough, these are almost never used, especially during boot, so that doesn't really help the lack of audio at boot crisis, except that perhaps low-level communications are perhaps erratic, or non-existent.

So I plug the USB headphones back in to see if troubleshooter does anything differently, and it now asks what it is I want to troubleshoot. Either the USB headphones, or the analogue audio outputs that are quite clearly DISABLED. (Of which troubleshooter would probably suggest I enable it I guess, so that makes some sense.)
However, when using HDMI audio, it never thought twice to troubleshoot any other output other than the one I was using at that time...

I select headphones for the troubleshooting, and it tells me to turn off sound effects and enhancements. These have and never were turned on. I do not believe in such things. I did tick the "disable all" box just to make sure, but a re-run of the troubleshooter suggests once again that I should turn them off, of which they are turned off...

  3. Windows Audio Crashes

My audio stops working when ever a mic is turned on.

On login, audio output works normally, however, when ever any mic is used, both audio input and output crash and a red x shows up on the taskbar audio icon.

It seems the Windows Audio service is what crashes.

After the first crash, the audio does not come back no matter what I do until I restart my pc.

I can replicate this with the following steps:

    1. Login to pc
      • audio output working fine
    2. Open sound settings, opens to playback tab
      • audio still fine and also able to play test sounds
    3. Click on Recording Tab
      • The sound feedback indicator on the right side is missing
      • The window freezes, error window appears about DLL crash
      • If there is no connected or enabled recording device, nothing happens everything else seem to run normally
    4. Proceed to follow various trouble shooting steps
      • Some troubleshooting steps seems to get rid of the red x on the taskbar volume icon
      • The recording tab in the sound settings is also now accessible
      • However things may seem fine at first, audio input/output is still not working and playing a test sound fails.

    Solutions I've Tried:

    • DISM (ended with no errors)
    • sfc /scannow (found corrupted files, required restart)
    • Restarting Windows Audio Service (results in err 1061, service then gets stuck on stopping)
    • Disabling and re-enabling audio drivers
    • Reinstalling audio drivers from manufacturers site
    • Using windows generic audio drivers
    • Restarting my PC
As you can see, I've spent a lot of time trying to fix this issue and it is starting to get really frustrating.

Audio issues, seemingly not driver related.

Well, I booted today with the webcam unplugged, still no audio. I reboot my PC, (which was often helping in the earlier days of the error) power cycled my AV receiver (which has helped once or twice), double and triple checked my sound settings just to make sure they've stayed the same.

Here's a screenshot of the volume mixer too, those green meters bouncing up and down as if everything is working perfectly (of which the troubleshooter has been believing)
