    PC freezes every three days

The problem first cropped up on 4th Jan 2017. I turned my AIO PC off and tried to turn it back on a few hours later. There was a blank screen with nothing on. Thinking it was a display problem which happened a couple of times before I pressed the ON button. The desktop screen came on. Although the mouse pointer moved fine on the screen, most icons did not respond when I clicked on them.

Microsoft tech support recommended a system restore. Which I did for restore point on 1 Jan 2017. After running system restore for a good while, system restore reported that an avast/defs/16122900/aswRep.dll file could not be extracted and system restore failed. However the system seemed to work fine after I left the AIO desktop on for a few hours.

Then a similar problem cropped up again on 7 Jan 2017 when the desktop just 'froze' when I left it on without touching it. I realized that the system didn't freeze or hang completely. It just took a good long while like about 10 minutes for it to respond when I clicked on the icons. I tried to do another system restore back to 1 Jan 2017 and again after running for a good while, the system restore said system restore failed. But yet it ran fine after that.

Anyway I sort of anticipated it happening again on 10th Jan. The thing ran fine for the next couple of days but lo and behold it happened again at some point on 10th Jan 2017. I was surfing the net and had left a few windows opened. Didn't do anything but when I came back to the desktop, the same thing happened. It took ages to close the window for Firefox.

This time I didn't run system restore. I decided to turn the system off. I pressed Windows + X and waited a few long minutes before the tab appeared for me to press the Shutdown command. The system took a good ten minutes or more to shut down. I left it alone for a few minutes and turned on the PC again. The HP logo popped up fine but the blank screen came back again. This time I just left it alone and after another 15 minutes a very bare desktop appeared with the message : 'The tablet driver is not running'. There were only the Start button and desktop button on the taskbar. I closed the message box and the other program icons began to appear a few at a time through a period of 20-30 minutes. I turned the PC off and then on again. It shut down and started up slightly faster but it was still going at snail's pace when I clicked on the icons to open and run the apps.

Finally I tried system restore to restore point on 1 Jan 2017 again. Took a good long while to start system restore. But when it finished, the same message popped up again. Even so the system ran pretty OK for an hour or so but the lag cropped up again. It was only after I turned off and on the PC again that everything seemed to work at proper speed. So that was 10 Jan 2017. PC is working fine today on 11 Jan 2017 but it seems like another event will crop up again on 13 Jan 2017.

Anybody knows what could be wrong? Is the problem keep cropping up every third day because I did the system restore from 4 Jan 2017 to 1 jan 2017, I was merely sort of rewinding back the problem issue. I am using a HP 23 K005D with intel Core i5 chip 8GB memory and Nvdia Geforce 730 graphics. It is more than 3 years old and wasn't running on windows 10 initially. Thanks

    :)

  3. Windows 10 Security Upgrades

I can not get my PC to complete the Windows 10 security upgrades. It automatically starts every day and at 82% it freezes my PC and I have to restart the PC. My frustration is that I have contacted Microsoft on three occasions and three different technicians
could not fix my problem and keep on promising to return my call after three to four hours of online help with zero results.

    PC freezes every three days

Hello ianz and welcome to TenForums *Smile

I would try to check all your system files are correct by running the System File Checker. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/...dows-10-a.html

If there are any errors it should fix them. If there are no errors, you might have to try restoring to an earlier System Restore Point if you have one.
