Was your USB network adapter connected when you reinstalled Windows?

Please make sure the mouse drivers and keyboard drivers are up to date.

I installed Razer Synapse for the mouse and Microsoft Keyboard Centre for the keyboard. I then restarted the computer and it shut down. Upon starting it up again, it did one long beep and one short beep and then crashed again. According to the motherboard manual, that means "motherboard or memory issues".

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Now it's booting fine, one beep like normal. I'll run the test just to be sure.

It seems very intermittent whether it wants to start up or not. Now there is just one long beep and then it sometimes shuts down or sometimes even the BIOS and initialisation screens are lagging/slow.

I'll keep trying to start it up.

It just shut down during the first 5 minutes of memtest. I don't know what to do...

EDIT: After running memtest again, I noticed the CPU temp was at 100 degrees. I checked on Speedfan and it is hovering around 80-90 degrees with no programs running. I'm going to try cleaning out the heatsink.

  7. While you have it open and cleaning out the heatsink, clean everything else also.

Problem is I don't have any compressed air, but I can use a vacuum for the detached heatsink.

  9. Do your best to clean everything you can.
Check the cooling fan's also, maybe you can wipe them with you finger to get the most off.

If you have Q-tip's they can help you also.

If the vacuum is strong enough, use it in reverse to blow out thing's.

Thanks for the advice. I cleaned out the CPU heatsink and reapplied the thermal paste; temperatures while idle are around 25-30 degrees rather than high 80s. So far no lag while using the PC, it seems that was the cause of the lag and random shut downs.

It's much more stable; I've restarted it a couple of times, one short beep like normal and no more lag!

I want to thank axe0 for guiding me through all the troubleshooting and trying to help me resolve this *Smile

No problem, it is what most of us try to do daily *Smile

But I would like to know about the USB network adapter I saw in msinfo32, because my experience with them is that they can cause a lot of trouble if they do not meet certain requirements
    • up to date drivers which are compatible with Windows 10,
    • possible software that is up to date and compatible,
    • connected in working USB port

I can't fully remember, but it's certainly possible that it was plugged in during the installation. I made sure to get the latest drivers from the TP-Link website, however it does only say supports up to Windows 8.

Not a big problem that the drivers are till Windows 8, sometimes older drivers still work proper enough *Smile

USB network adapters are very useful, but many bluescreen analysts will say that you need to remove it for the time of troubleshooting. Usually someone can use it again after troubleshooting as long as the drivers and software are up to date and compatible with installed operating system.

This is only a warning that you need to prepare yourself for problems, because of the drivers and OS compatibility.
