    PC taking forever to boot.

My PC has been taking a long time to boot. Whenever I press the power button, the power light blinks and the loading screen appears as usual, but it remains for a long time(the dots circling screen). I have waited for apmost hours but it doesnt start. I have to firce atop it using power button every time. I went in the Diagnostics and ran a full 3 hour process, but it shows no error. I am still not able to open my pc.

P.S.: I ran an antivirus scan before this problem. There are no viruses. Also, my PChas been showing abnormalities after the recent KB 4284874 update(like settings app getting frozen for minutes. Edge, groove not working, etc.)

    Sorry for the long question.

    Thanks in advance

    :)

    "Getting Windows Ready" takes forever

    Hi Jayby,

One of the possible reasons why your PC fails to boot into normal mode are broken components on the boot configuration data of your system. To isolate your concern, we suggest that you perform the following steps to trigger
safe mode through the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) option. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • Improper shutdown process (For Laptop: Remove the battery before performing the steps)
      • Turn on your computer. When the Windows logo is visible, unplug the power source of your computer. Perform this step three times.
      • On the fourth time that you turn on your computer, just simply wait for the
Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) window to appear.
    • On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings and click
      Restart.
    • Once your computer restarts, you will see a list of options. Press the
      F4
key to start your computer in safe mode.

We also recommend that you perform a system restore after booting in
    safe mode
. This option takes your PC back to an earlier point in time. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made. To do
    this, follow the steps below:

    • In the Search box, type Control
      Panel and press Enter.
    • On the upper-right window, under View
      by, click Category and select
      Large icons.
    • Search Control Panel for Recovery.
    • Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
    • Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

Let us know if the solution above works for you.

    Windows 10 Update Taking Forever

    Hi,

It will take some time to finish the process when installing Windows Update. As a workaround, we suggest that you perform these steps to identify if Windows is already unresponsive. Press the
NUM LOCK key on your keyboard to check if the light will turn on or off. If the light is changing meaning the system is still in the process but if not, we recommend that you press and hold the power button to shut down your PC.
Once done, try to boot your system again and check if it loads to Windows environment.

Let us narrow down the possibilities why your PC encountered this issue. You can follow the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Temporarily disable your antivirus program before running the Windows Update.
    • Visit the article on how to perform a clean boot in Windows.
This helps eliminate software conflict that occurs when you install a program or an update. You may also determine what conflict is causing the issue by performing this method.
    • Fix Windows Update errors. Since you are using Windows 10, you can do this by running the Windows Update Troubleshooter. To download the Windows Update Troubleshooter, click on this
      link.
    • Restart your computer for the changes to take effect and try updating Windows again.

Note: After doing the steps above, you can enable your antivirus program again.

Keep us posted if you encounter any challenges along the process.

    PC taking forever to boot.

Windows XP Pro boot takes forever.

I turned my machine off while it was booting and was therefore presented with the boot menu on the next startup. For shits and giggles, I selected 'Last Good Configuration'. My machine booted perfectly and was real snappy when I got to the desktop. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
