    Well, you could 'trick' Windows Home by telling it you had a metered connection (which would more-or-less disable update). Or tell it not to install drivers. Or prevent it from installing certain updates by hiding them using the MS Show & Hide utility

    I know this old but I just had to fix this issue myself. Just in case this happens to anyone else....my machine was upgraded from Win7 to Win10. For the longest time I couldn't figure out what was causing it. Someone suggested running powercfg /lastwake. Well, that was useless information. Then I checked out all switches for powercfg and immediately nailed what was doing it:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>powercfg /waketimers
    Timer set by [SERVICE] \Device\HarddiskVolume2\Windows\System32\svchost.exe (SystemEventsBroker) expires at 10:18:36 AM on 5/18/2016.
    Reason: Windows will execute 'NT TASK\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\mcupdate_scheduled' scheduled task that requested waking the computer.

    Deleted that ******* and now all is well! It was a useless task anyway. It would wake the machine then failed to run because it couldn't find xxxxx file.
