Windows 10: PC will not restart after update.

I can shut my PC down and start it up again without any problems, but if I restart it to install an update, software etc., it just hangs. The PC is still running and the fans are working, but the monitor is black and the wired mouse and keyboard are off. The only way to sort it out is to press the power button for a few seconds to turn the PC off, then leave it for 24 hours with the power switched off until it will work again. Can you help please?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

if you want to change any setting just do it step by step so you know what might happen when your pc restart again and again

Thanks for your patient help and analysis, zbook. I'll step through some of your suggestions over the next few days - there's a lot to do and some look a bit hairy! That is, for a PC that is working sweetly right now...
