  1. PC won’t recognise hard drive

I recently bought a refurbished computer with an SSD where the system was installed and an empty HDD installed and everything worked perfectly. Then it said there was a windows update, so I updated it, when it went to 82% of the install I got a BSOD, and when it booted back up again I got a blancco driver eraser screen. Luckily I have a admitedly old and slow mac so I installed windows 10 on a usb stick with bootcamp and booted windows on the refurb with that. When it came to installing windows, it wouldnt let me install on or format the SSD because it was unallocated space. I installed it on the HDD, and now when im trying to initialise the SSD in Computer Management it says ‘A device which does not exist was specified.’ I’m not really bothered about recovering data as I haven’t had it long and hadn’t really done anything noteworthy on it. I’ve checked for device driver updates but it’s all up to date. Is it worth downloading software to try and fix it? If it’s completely borked and I need to send it back is any of my data ie personal details still on the SSD somewhere and if so how to erase them? I know it says it’s got nothing on it but I just want to make sure. I know I’m probably an idiot for buying a refurb, but I wasn’t expecting a windows update to break it of all things

    :)

Internal secondary hard drive not recognised

After fitting SSD (C: drive) to my Win10 machine I connected the old hard drive as a secondary storage drive.

    Win10 does not "see" it!
But Belarc Adviser "sees" the hard drive!

How to force Win 10 to recognise the secondary drive? Simple steps please for a non-techie.

    Thanks.

    External hard drive not recognised

Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.

    Hi,

Thank you for your response with the current status of the issue.

To assist you better, please provide us the below information

    • Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the external hard drive on the computer?

Step 3: Then try to boot the computer in safe mode and check if the hard drive is getting recgonized in it or not.
