Windows 10: Permanently disable the Real Time Protection to increase performance

I am trying to permanently disable the Real Time Protection RTP - and I succeed on one Windows10 where I after reboot still have disabled the RTP.


On another Windows10 I fail. After reboot the RTP is active again.

I can see that the entry I made using the Regedit has disappeared after my reboot.


The user has Administrative rights on both Windows10s.


My steps are:



Open Regedit
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender
Add new "key" named "Real-Time Protection"
Select "Real-Time Protection" and create DWORD 32-Bit value named "DisableRealtimeMonitoring". Change Value Data 0 to 1
Save and exit Regedit
Reboot and verify

I suspect it to be a rights-issue - but I can't see the difference between the two installations.


Any clues / solutions?


Background: The installation runs without any network access and the RTP slows file access to a point where it is not acceptable. In Win7 it was OK - but Win10 has this extra security - which here is not attractive.

Unable to to Disable Defender Real Time Protection

I installed the April 2018 Win 10 Update today which has resulted in my CPU constantly working 15% higher due to the Antimalware Service Executable. I’ve tried to disable Defender as suggested by Microsoft but its instruction was to go to Settings / Update & Security / Windows Security / Virus & Threat Protection / Virus & Threat Protection Settings. This should have given me access to switch Real Time Protection off, but the final ‘Settings’ option was not available – see screen shot.



Any ideas please?
