Windows 10: Personalized settings is not responding with Windows 10 update after restart.

When I update Windows 10 I get an error telling me personalized settings is not responding after restart. I get a warning box in upper left hand area of screen. Otherwise the screen is frozen and black. I can ctl-alt-del and work from the task manager. I have seen various solutions out on the internet.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

personalized settings not responding after every windows update


Every time there is a windows 10 update and the computer restarts after the update, I can reach the login screen and log in but then I get a black screen with a white box indicating personalized settings not responding. I have done a ctrl alt del to get to task manager and run new task, enter CMD and enter sfc /scannnow. This appears to correct the problem. In the details in task manager it looks like explorer.exe is not responding after the update restart. This happens with every windows 10 update. Is there anything I can do to avoid this from happening again at the next windows update?

 

Personalized settings (not responding) after installing cumulative updates

I have Windows 10 version 1607 build 14393.2007 which I'm advised to upgrade. Each time I've tried the upgrade crashed because of the Personalized Settings problem.

I followed the steps to delete the key for Windows Desktop Update and restart Windows Explorer,
[Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4340}.]

However this hasn't stopped the update crashing.

Any suggestions?
