Photo App does not display the correct date taken.

I went through a folder of pictures and changed the properties on each photo to have the correct taken by date. I even changed the dated created on a few, but the photo app completely ignores these changes. I also tried changing the photo taken date via the photo app. but, the date is still not correctly displaying. For example, the date taken is November 2nd,1995. but when sorted by date taken the photo app says February 4th, 2023. When sorted by date modified, the photo app shows today's date, which would be correct. I also tried removing the folder from the photo app and adding it back aft

  2. Photos not displayed by Taken Date

I've scanned photos into my laptop and used File Explorer to correct the Taken Date. I file them by Year and some Years have Folders for Month. Some of them have been changed and refiled.

The Photo app doesn't display them by Taken Date.

File Explorer has a Folder for My Photos 1969, but photos moved from My Photos 1968 to My Photos 1969 and Taken Date changed to 1969 still are displayed in 1968.

I'm using Win 10 and it's up to date.

  3. Photos not displayed by Taken Date

    You missed something.

When I scanned the photos I erroneously identified them as 1968 and filed them in a folder (such as 01-1968) in a folder 1968 in Pictures. When I realized the wrong year, I changed the Taken Date of each photo to 1969, renamed the folder 01-1969 and moved
it to a folder 1969 in Pictures.

File Explorer lists everything correctly., but the Photo app still displays the photos as 1968.

  4. Photo App does not display the correct date taken.

in the old photos app, the date taken was clearly shown...the news photos app only displays the current date...any way to sort by date shown?

    Hi phil kenning,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I apologize for the confusion. It seems that the new Photos app in Windows 11 might not display the date taken directly on each photo thumbnail as the old Photos app did. However, you can still sort your photos by date taken using the steps mentioned earlier.

Regarding the issue of duplicating photos when copying them to a folder, it's important to ensure that you are performing a copy operation rather than a move operation. Here's how you can copy the photos to a folder without duplicating them:

    1. Select the group of photos you want to copy in the Photos app.
    2. Right-click on the selected photos and choose "Copy" from the context menu.
    3. Navigate to the destination folder where you want to copy the photos.
    4. Right-click inside the destination folder and choose "Paste" from the context menu.
By using the "Copy" and "Paste" commands, you should be able to copy the selected photos to the desired folder without creating duplicates.

If you're still experiencing issues with duplicating photos or if the suggested steps don't work as expected, I recommend checking for any third-party software or settings on your computer that might be causing this behavior. You could also consider using alternative file management tools or exploring additional options within the Photos app for better control over your photo organization

Thank you for your patience and understanding, if you have any questions, please feel free to leave us a message.

    Best regards
