Windows 10: Photo app error when opening files, The app didn't start.

hey all, i've been troubleshooting this issue for days and i'm lost. when i try to open an image file, the Photos app returns the error "The app didn't start." and then the app disappears. i've also discovered that i can't open Microsoft Store we use Store for Business, the window appears for a moment and then disappears. i've scoured the Internet and tried every command line/powershell i can find, tried repair, reset, uninstall, nothing is working. can anyone offer any assistance? Google is riddled with reports of this issue and i have yet to find a solution, please help. thanks!

Photo apps won't open photo files

Out of the blue I can no longer open photo files like PNG, JPG, etc. and don't know when this started. I can select open with Windows Photo Viewer and it will open fine but if I close that file and reopen again I get an error "The app didn't start". Nor can I open any other files it only works the first time you try to open with a given app.

If I select open Picasa Photo Viewer it will again open one of those files but won't reopen if I close it... I get the error screen. Any ideas?

 

Windows 10 Photos app displays error "The app didn't start."

I just updated my Windows 10 today (to v1703) and one problem I had was that whenever I tried to open an image file associated with the default Photos app it would display an error message saying "The app didn't start" right away. (No crashing, no hanging). I can't even launch the app from the start menu. Is there any way to fix this or do I have to use the old Windows Photo Viewer?

 

Photos are opening with Paint instead of Photos app

It's likely that your default application for opening photos is Paint. To change your default program in Windows 10 from
Paint to the Photo app, we suggest that you perform the following steps:

• On the Start menu, select Settings.
  
• Go to System, then go to Default apps.
  
• Select Photos or any app that you like to be the default under
  Photo viewer.
