Windows 10: Photos in a folder padlocked: Access denied

I have a folder of photos which I can no longer access. A padlock appears over the file icon. I cannot transfer or even view the photos. When I try transferring the files, I get this message:




When I click continue, I get a further error message.



I am the User named as the user whose permission is required. I am the Administrator on this PC.


I have checked the Security permissions and have ensured that the Administrator group and Users have full control over the file. I have also changed the file ownership to myself. None of these have worked. I have checked to ensure that the files have not been encrypted and the option is greyed out.


My PC is running Windows 10 Home Version 1809 (OS Build 17763.557).

Destination Folder Access Denied

There are times that you may run into the issue of being unable to open or access or work with files and folder. The common message that flashes on your computer screen when you try doing so reads: "Access Denied."

This can occur for one or more of the following reasons:

• The folder ownership may have changed.
• You do not have the proper permissions.
• The file may be encrypted.
• The file may be in use.
• The file may be corrupt.
• The user profile may be corrupt.

To resolve this issue, the first step is to run CHKDSK. It detects and fix disk corruption. To run CHKDSK, follow these steps:

• Press Win+X.
• Select Command Prompt (Admin).
• In the window that opens enter your CHKDSK command.

Unable to access a folder, it denies permission

Change Folder Destination access Denied

After following the steps suggested, I get the message "Access denied" in command prompt.

Please advise how to allow permission.
