    Photos: "Invalid Value for Registry"

Apparently it is my turn: Photos app no longer launches (clicking on the icon does nothing; no error report in Event Log). Trying to double-click image files associated with Photos results in "Invalid Value for Registry" message box. No explanation as to for what value is "invalid" and why it is "invalid".

It appears that the damage is user-account-specific, meaning that Photos typically continue to work fine under different (undamaged) user accounts. So, the only known solution appears to be to create a new user account and set it up from scratch.

Considering that setting up a new account requires quite an effort, this is not a real solution but more of a last resort "loser's way out" kind of measure. Hence the question: did anyone ever come across any additional information/research about this error? What specific "registry value" is responsible for this problem? I see quite a few reports about this error on the Net, but most of them seem to settle with creating a new account.

    :)

  2. Photos

Whenever I try to open a photo, my computer gives me the error message "Invalid value for registry." I want to know if resetting the Photos app will help, but if I do that, will it delete all of my photos?

Photo app has disappeared and If I try to access pictures from folders I get message 'class not registered

Had this same problem with "class not registered". Tried methods 1 and 2 with no luck. Tried method 3 and now when I try to access photos I get "invalid value for registry."

Hi, understand.. can't directly point you to a specific registry entry, but this may be of interest for comparison- I used Nirsoft's FileTypesman. (The Userchoice field = AppX43hnxtbyyps62jhe9sqpdzxn1790zetc)

I'll assume you've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, reregistering the app.

Can confirm jpg's open with Photo app.

Are you able to associate (e.g.) jpg's with any other program?
Of course, it may not be an association related registry entry...

  6. In case anyone, like me, just ran into this issue I wanted to update the thread. I found that my NVidia 3D drivers were taking advantage of the common graphics file extensions. If you don't use any 3D periperals, try removing the 3D NVidia options in Remove Programs. If it doesn't work you can just reload them anyway... it worked for me.

This MAY also apply to other graphix... so give it a shot. Don't download anything if you don't need to. This is, likely, not an issue any malware will fix.
