  1. Photoshop stopped working because the scratch disk is full.

Based on a previous post of a problem in this forum, I was directed to information on setting up Photoshop. In following the instructions, I changed the scratch disk from my "C:" drive to my "D:" drive which is "Recovery Image D:".

Now Photoshop will not even open because it indicates the scratch disk is full.

I looked at this drive and I see a folder called "Photoshop Temp67914207928" , but I can not open this folder. I am afraid to delete this folder, but I don't know what to do.

I have a client coming over in the morning and I have to show them the work I have done for them in Photoshop. Is there an easy fix for this problem?

  2. Windows 10 and Photoshop 7

Due to a disc failure I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 10 and a 2T hard drive. After restoring files from back-up and reloading software most everything seems to work. But, Photoshop 7 returns an error that say my scratch disk is full.
With a 2T disc I didn't think anything would ever be full.

Photoshop stopped working because the scratch disk is full.

You shouldn't use D: PARTITION for anything, it's part of Windows. There may be 2 or 3 other partitions perhaps without drive letters, don't use them. Right-click Start, click Disk Management to see the partitions you do have. If you can post a screenshot of that.

Does Photoshop have a setting where you can specify a particular Folder you created on the C: drive? As I recall some 10-15 years ago a version of Photoshop did allow that but I haven't used it in quite awhile.

  5. Thanks Benton,

Please excuse my ignorance, but I do not understand your statement "Right-click Start, click Disk Management to see the partitions you do have." I am not sure where the "Start" is in Windows 10.

I did some playing around and got to a page titled "Storage - Local storage" where it shows my C: and D: drives. The D: drive is using 15.3 GB out of 15.4 GB. There is a switch under the title "Storage Sense" which is turned off. It says you can free up space by getting rid of files you don't need. Should I turn this on? Or am I completely in the wrong place?

I found a file called "Photoshop Temp67912407928" on the "D:" drive. Can I just delete this and start Photoshop and change the scratch drive back to C: again?

The Start button is the icon of 4 white panels, like a window in a home or business. Just move the mouse pointer over it and right-click [just once] to get a menu of things, Disk Management is one of them.

Leave the D: drive [actually a partition on the drive] alone unless you can do a full reinstall from a DVD or maybe a USB Thumb drive.

You can delete the "Photoshop Temp67912407928" Folder. I'd look in Options or Preference in Photoshop and see if you can designate or create a Folder and specify its size. If it were mine I'd use the name of PS Scratch and set it for about 5GB, may need to change the size downward if not sufficient disk space or upward if that is not large enough.

Or maybe plug in an empty 8GB USB Thumb drive and point PS to it.

  7. Thanks. I thought I had responded to this post, but don't see it now. I got Photoshop working again by deleting the file on drive D:
