    Playing standard midi files from the internet.


    To play standard midi files from the internet to my Roland keyboard I use the Van Basco Karaoke programme
    via midi leads.For some reason when I click on a midi file,instead of the Van Basco programme,the VLC media player
    appears in the centre of the sceen and does nothing.Is there any way to prevent this happening?I have checked that
    .mid .midi and .kar(the 3 file extensions for midi)are configured with Van Basco and not VLC.Can anyone help please?

    Hi Jack, (no pun intended),

    I've bought Karaoke, Midi synthesizer, and Zquence, all with negative aspects enclosed which prevent me running my own midi creations.

    eg karaoke, errors when I load from my skydrive - both mid and kar

    (a pc version I have of karaoke works fine - although a bit garish for me)

    Midi synthesizer won't allow me to access my skydrive because the net browser supplied in the download area does not have a configurable option to allow javascript to logon to skydrive

    Zquence is a stand alone midi sequencer with access only to the midi files created with in the program.

    I have attempted to down load midi files within (the nokia 710 apps) Internet Explorer, Google, and Zune, to leave on my phone in a file to then access them from one of the midi players above but (my thinking still steeped in pc mode) they DON'T load/play.

    I have also tried to contact Zune support on pc, but the direct links to "engineering help" via emailing are invalid

    So, my next request of you, when you get a chance, is:- could you lobby on my behalf to get Zune for windows mobile to program an update to include playing midi files at least from skydrive, like they do with mp3, etc.

    midi format

    Nokia use a propriotry midi format. If you load a standard .mid file it won't play. Nokia use a format called .spmid. You can get a file converter if you Google for it but I have used it and although it converts the file correctly the resultant playback
    sound is very cheesy, I have over come the problem by playing the midi file on my computer and recording it as an Mp3 file and transferring that to the phone, hope this helps, if you need any more info, email me...

    Instead of just clicking on the midi file what if you right click on the file and choose "open with" and then just use your chosen program?

    Thanks for your reply Rocky,right click and "open with" wasn`t a choice.However "open link in a new tab " was, and although it didn`t work,it mentioned the "VLC Web plug in" which I have now disabled and everything works perfectly.
