Windows 10: Poor Internet Connection

Greetings,


I am trying to improve my PC's connection to the Internet. I am paying my service provider for around 100Mbps speeds. Speedtest.net indicates that I am only getting around 6-8Mbps. I've tried this test on both the 2.4 and 5G connections, and I'm sitting right next to the adapter, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. When I connect my phone to the internet and run the same test, I am getting speeds in excess of 100Mbps, so it seems like it's not a router/modem issue. I'm the only one using these connections with my devices, and when I run these tests nothing else is connected to the network.


I have tried the following solutions:


- Restarting the modem and router

- Updating and reinstalling drivers

- Adding and installing a USB Wi-Fi adapter (Dual Band 600Mbps Wireless from UPTOU, which I'm admittedly not very impressed with)

- Turning off the Firewall

- Closing/disabling/uninstalling programs (I'm basically running these tests with just the browser open, no other extra programs or streaming happening on other devices)

- Testing the connection with multiple browsers


None of these have had a positive impact and I'm still hanging around 6-8Mbps. The one solution I have tried is to tether my phone to my computer via USB and to use the phone's WiFi connection to access the Internet, which provides speeds around 100+Mbps, so maybe there's a simple solution I'm overlooking? It doesn't seem feasible to always connect my phone to the computer when I'm using the Internet.

Try the following steps:

• 
  Click "Search" and type "Troubleshooting" without quotes and hit enter.
  
• 
  Click “View All”
  
• 
  Select "Internet Explorer connection"
  
•

HTC 7 Mozart mobile not connecting to internet

If you cannot connect to Wi-Fi or use the Mobile Data on your HTC 7 Mozart device, we suggest that you follow the steps given on
Lumia troubleshooting and repair. After each step, check to see if your issue has been fixed.

• For issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks, select Connectivity > My phone has problems connecting to Wi-Fi networks, then follow the suggested steps provided.

• And for issues connecting to the internet using a mobile data connection, select
  Connectivity > I cannot connect to the internet using a mobile data connection. Make sure to select the next options given if the problem persists.
