  1. Possible Fix: Windows 10 Sudden Freeze without BSOD EventID: 41 Kernel-Power

Incident: PC sudden freeze, force shutdown and startup to make it work

    · Brief:

I upgraded to Windows 10 2004 and performed 2 clean installs afterwards in doubt something wrong with image process. I was in doubt of hardware issue in my laptop, so I had to alter RAM configuration, clean the hardware, attach/detach USB peripherals, run on battery and AC laptop, performing BIOS embedded Diagnostics, everything shows that hardware is 100% functional with no issues. Windows is up to date and all drivers are up to date.

    § Target version: Windows 10 20H1 version 2004 build: 10.0.19041.329

    · Symptoms:

    - After startup shortly up to 10-15 mins of usage, out of no where PC freezes with no response

    - Event viewer shows Critical Event 41, Kernel-Power:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

    · Troubleshooting:

    - Performed 2 clean installations of Windows

    - Performing Windows update

    - Updating drivers to latest version

    - BIOS updated to latest version

    - Performed BIOS hardware diagnostics

    - Connection on battery / AC to ensure faulty charger or bad AC source

    - Detach all peripherals

    - Ran PC in Safe Mode, disabled many start up services, disabled Windows services, same issue

Memory dumps in this case is useless as it only logs BSOD not sudden freeze

    · Possible Fix:

    - Ran elevated command: sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at
windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline
repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.

    - Ran the same command in Safe Mode with same results

    - Ran the elevated commands from normal boot:

    dsim /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    dsim /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    dsim /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    - Then I ran again sfc /scannow twice and voila! Affected files repaired successfully and so far I have no sudden freeze issue.

§ Files repaired by DSIM command:

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\mfmpeg2srcsnk.dll

    C:\Program Files x86\Windows Photo Viewer\\PhotoViewer.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\wmpdxm.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\mfcore.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\wmidx.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\PhotoScreensaver.scr

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\wmp.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\mfmjpegdec.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\fveapibase.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\fveapi.dll

    C:\Program Files x86\Windows Photo Viewer\\PhotoAcq.dll

    C:\Program Files x86\Windows Media Player\\wmprph.exe

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\WMNetMgr.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\MsSpellCheckingFacility.dll

    C:\Program Files x86\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\\micaut.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\mfasfsrcsnk.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\mfds.dll

    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\\mswmdm.dll

I will include in a later edit SFC and DISM commands log.

Hope this will guide Windows team to put hands on issue if the missing / corrupt files might cause this disturbance to system.

    :)

  2. Power Kernel 41 Error, During Gaming, Possibly Software?

    yeah i know.
But if you did a read on the matter there have been 10 000 users having this power problem on win 10.

Even when everybody knew it wasent the PSU, since like 9000 of those having this crash updated from a fully funcionally win 7 and never had a kernel 41 crash on win 7.
Problems started only after they updated to win 10.

At least problems are fixed from my part, with the answer in my latest post.

Power Kernel 41 Error, During Gaming, Possibly Software?

@storm shadow, I already explained that in post 7
    There are 3 different crashes

    1. A freeze crash
    2. A sudden shutdown/restart crash
    3. A bluescreen crash

A memory dump will only be created when a bluescreen crash occurs.
A kernel event id 41 only means an unexpected power problem has occured what happens with both a shutdown/restart and bluescreen crashes.

    Hi storm shadow,

    2. A sudden shutdown/restart crash

A memory dump will only be created when a bluescreen crash occurs.
A kernel event id 41 only means an unexpected power problem has occured what happens with both a shutdown/restart and bluescreen crashes.

I would suggest to check the connection of the components and make sure everything is connected properly to start with.
