  1. Postponing or scheduling windows 10 updates.. Why can't I?

I have googled and looked through multiple answers online, all of which have completely different system panels for updates.

These are a few of the update answers I've looked at that are 100% useless to me because they don't match what I have (so you don't post these as answers):

  3. Windows 10 creators update cancellation

I want to CANCEL my scheduled update for Windows 10 Creators edition. I mistakenly clicked on the "check system" button when MS asked about this, and now it's formally scheduled.

How can I CANCEL an update that's already scheduled to take place? Currently I'm postponing the scheduled update date every few days, and don't want this particular update to occur at all at this time. Perhaps in the future, but not right now. I'd like
to get other Windows updates, though. Thanks!

Postponing or scheduling windows 10 updates.. Why can't I?

According to your video, you have no issues. Your video shows you trying two things, both seem to be working exactly as they should.

    Active hours:
    • In build 14393, active hours can be set to max 12 hours (in later Insider builds that has been increased to 18 hours)
    • You are trying to set active hours to last 21 hours, from 8 AM to next day 5 AM. That's 9 hours too much
    • Try setting the end of active hours max 12 hours from the start time, it will work
    Restart options:
    • Postponing automatic restart can only be set when there is an update waiting the machine to be restarted. Your Windows Update shows no pending updates or restarts, therefore it is at the moment greyed out
    • When there will be one or more updates pending restart, you can activate Restart options and set a time for automatic restart

  5. The video was to show you all the windows I have access too and what happens with the options available. I wasn't trying to do anything in the video. At 00.35 in the video there is a window with what looks like a place to set a custom restart time. Mine is greyed out and unusable at all times. Whether there is no install ready or whether there is. The video was made post install after I lost valuable work because I couldn't postpone install. I don't really care when downloads happen, but I would like installs to happen when I sleep rather than whenever windows decides works best for it.

You asked why you can't postpone updates. Your video shows two things, you trying to set Active Hours from 8 AM to 5 AM, for 21 hours which is 9 hours too much, and a greyed out custom time in Restart Options.

I answered both of those concerns with a valid and factual explanation. In your video you are showing nothing that is wrong. Video shows a totally normal, default Settings app opened in Windows Update, a completely working Active Hours setting panel, and a completely normal Restart Options panel.

As I explained in my previous post if the active hours are set to a period which exceeds 12 hours, system does not accept it. Instead you get the yellow notification text telling that it can be max 12 hours. Here I am trying to set Active Hours last 15 hours, three hours too much therefore getting an error notification:

As soon as set time period, from start to end time is 12 hours or less (18 hours in later Windows Insider builds), system accepts it and the error notification is no longer shown:

The Restart Options is always disabled / greyed out when there are no updates pending restart, as is your case according to the video. It comes available and enabled when there is a non-critical update pending restart. Here I have download Windows Insider upgrade through Windows Update and it is pending restart:

Now the Restart Options and custom time to postpone restart is enabled:

Even when there are updates pending restart, postponing is not always possible. Some critical updates which need to be installed immediately or as soon as possible do not let to set custom restart time.

I repeat what I said in my previous post: your video shows a completely normal and working Windows Update page and options in Settings app, Active Hours and Restart Options working as they should. Your video does not show a single detail which is wrong, it does not show any issues or missing options.
