Powershell crashes with an access violation (c0000005) in bcryptPrimitives.dll.

I cannot launch powershell at present. If I open an Administrator Command Prompt and type `powershell`, nothing happens.

Consulting event viewer reveals that there has been an Application Error, the faulting application is indeed, powershell.exe and the faulting module is named as bcryptPrimitives.dll. Associated exception code is c0000005 which I believe is an access violation.

"There was a problem with your Steam installation."

Exception Code: c0000005 is an access violation. I would do as Black Panther suggests.
    Something is amiss.

  3. Windows 10 1803 Upgrade fails with Access violation - code c0000005 error?

I am attempting to upgrade my custom built PC from Windows 10 1709.

I have tried doing this a few different ways, first through the standard Windows Update Prompt, then twice through the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant. Each time the Update seems to be successful, until about a 3rd of the way through when it inevitably crashes and restores to the old version.

At the suggestion of an IT professional, I ran SetupDiag.exe to diagnose the issue. The result is that there was an Exception thrown, with the error:

Access violation - code c0000005 (first/second chance not available)

    and

Failed to request MethodData, not in JIT code range
    GetUrlPageData2 (WinHttp) failed: 12002.

I have the entire log uploaded here

If it helps with debugging this, the computer has a 1080Ti, Asus Z170-A Mobo, no 3rd party antivirus, and no running 3rd party processes during the install (manually closed them). Bitlocker was suspended for the upgrade as well.

Bios is updated to the latest version, as are the video driver and other misc drivers for other hardware parts.

How can I successfully update to the latest Windows 10 Feature Release?

  4. Powershell crashes with an access violation (c0000005) in bcryptPrimitives.dll.

    OC30.DLL Access Violation

I have an old software, written in Visual Basic 6.0.

    Some users have upgraded to
    Windows 10.

    After upgrading, the software sometimes
crashes and in the event log I find
a report of access violation in OC30.DLL.

I tried to set the exe compatibility
to Win 7 or Win8 but I did not get
    any results.

Yes, the dll is very old
butlthe error is completely new :-(.
