  1. PowerShell startup is very slow

When I open PowerShell I either cannot type in the PowerShell window, or it takes an extremely long time (30 minutes) for it to load for me to type.

PowerShell opens and displays the following text for about 30 minutes (or forever) without allowing me to type commands.

    "Windows PowerShell

Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Try the new cross-platform PowerShell https://aka.ms/pscore6"

    • I have uninstalled and re-installed Powershell via "Optional Features" in the "Add & Remove Programs"
    • I have set the "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service" to "Manual" startup type.

    PC Info:
    Windows 10 Pro

    Version: 20H2 (19042.868)

    Slow Startup

Does anybody know why I am having really slow system startups? I don't have extra startup programs than I use to have. The only thing that I think it could be is my antivirus program. I use AVG now since I reformated 2 days ago..and every since then, I have a really slow startup..I don't know if that is the reason..Does anybody have any suggestions, on how to speed my startup? I use to be able to be on my desktop screen in like 35-40 seconds at most. And now it is way over a minute. Any help would be gr8.

  3. Windows PowerShell opens up at Startup

    Hi Richard,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. Let me assist you.

Windows PowerShell might be one of the Startup programs on your computer. All the Startup programs are launched at Startup by Windows. I suggest you to check if the
Windows PowerShell program is enabled on the Startup. To check the Startup programs press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc Keys together and open Task Manager. Go to the
Startup tab and check if Windows PowerShell is listed. If it is listed under the Startup programs, select it and click on
Disable. Further restart the computer to check if the issue persists.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Powershell on Startup?

Whenever I boot up Windows, the Powershell window appears for a split second and disappears (but it remains running in the background). I don't know why but I found out that I have 2 instances of Powershell appearing in my list of Startup apps, both have
    high startup impact.

Is Powershell supposed to run on startup? What'll happen if I just disable it?
