Windows 10: Preparing automatic repair - stuck - Desktop won't load Windows, stuck

Hello everyone, hope some experts can read and maybe help me out. I am frustrated.

I have a problem which I tried to research first in many forums,videos, etc., and now I am exhausted after a couple of weeks tryingto find a solution.I bought at CyberpowerPC a desktop called: Black Pearl back in September 2014.A gaming desktop, which I rarely used due to work but with nice hardware, etc. for back then.

I will post only the specs. I think matter for my case, but please feel freeto ask for any info. you need regarding that:

- TEMP: Aerocool V12XT Dual Bay Touch Screen Fan Control (to monitor temperature, as I live on the beach and gets warm on the summer!)

I have the latest BIOS version: E7885IM5 v17.3(H30)

All was working just great from 2014 to this year 2017.At the beginning, I believe it was around May 2017, I noticed that the loading time to get intowindows was MUCH slower and I started to wonder if there was an issue.

I cannot recall when was the last big Windows 10 update, but after this update, things got worse it seems and the delay time from the black screen with the MSI logo until you get to start Windows 10, maybe doubled or tripled. I didn't care much about this as I though was an issue with the new Windows 10 and maybe they would patch it later, etc., and things would be back to normal more less.

It didn't.Once I was logged into windows, computer would very rarely freeze just like that. And I had to reboot. This never happened ever before, but there were two things I recently did by that time:

- was upgrading the NVIDIA drivers
- upgraded to the latest big Windows 10 patch

I rolled back, uninstalled, and reinstalled the original NVIDIA drivers and things kind of returned to normal, except that the loading time was still taking too much time from the BIOS screen to Windows 10.

Once I was logged into Windows, I started to later on after some days, get even more freezes until I couldn't ever log again into Windows anymore.

Just stuck at the black screen.I can access the BIOS no problem but cannot go further.

This is what I have tried so far, with no results and I am wondering if I need to replace the whole Motherboard?? :

- Switched between BIOS 1 & 2 (no results or improvements)- Booted the computer using one RAM module (stick) at a time (4 in total) to check if RAM was a problem, but got the same results: stuck at the BIOS / MSI screen

- Booted doing the same but now with my two hard drives. Same result

- Booted after unplugging some cards like WiFi, or others to see if any hardware could be the problem, including the NVIDIA video card. Same results.

- Cleaned all fans, unlplugged and re-plugged wires. No change.

- While doing all this and when the problem started I monitored all the temperatures with the digital monitor. VGA, CPU, and everything else was not hot at all. CPU never passed 80 celcius, average was maybe 75 celcius for example.

- I tried using a Windows 10 installation disk and there was a change here: After the black BIOS screen it prompted me to a Windows logo screen PURPLE color which reminded me of when you install Windows 10, but it GOT STUCK there too.

- I ran a MEMTEST sometime (March) before the problem (May) happened and had no errors. Wanted to do it again but cannot even get a MS-DOS command screen. Any ideas?

- I thought maybe the processor could be a problem so I checked it and saw some thermo paste left but temperature readings were always fine so I don't think it is the problem? But it seem it could use some more thermo compound.-

I tried writing down some of the motherboard error or star-up codes but many don't come on the manual and can't find if they mean something or not

.- I might have tried some other things but at this point I rather put this on the hands of really saavy and expert people than mines.

My head can't work anymore.After reading in many places, it seems the problem was with the Motherboard and saw many people doing RMO's but in my case I don't think I have any guarantees that are current (all expired).

If anyone could help me out, would be greatly greateful!

I never post things unless I am on a dead end and fortunately since 1999-2000 the Internet, forums, BBS's systems back them, etc., have been always great not only to me but to many people and well, here I go again posting after maybe 15 years lolThanks again in advance.. I will follow any suggested tests that I still have to try if needed and post back results.

Surface 3 tablet will not load windows

My Surface Pro 3 tablet is stuck on the 'Surface screen' It will not load Windows 10 and no matter what I cannot get it to work. I might have messed up the battery or something. Out of all the times I shut down and rebooted it, the preparing automatic repair
has only shown up twice now it is stuck on the surface screen with only the preparing automatic repair message below the logo. There's no change at all and not even the loading dots have appeared. Is there any way I can fix this?

These are the basic problems you've experienced, if I've picked them out correctly.

Hi, my initial thought when I read about the increased boot time was that this is a relatively commonly reported problem here- a few people experience this after upgrading to the current Creator's build, assuming that's the one you're referring to.

There are a number of threads on that with recommendations on using a boot time analysis tool.

However, it seems you now cannot boot at all.
Is there a blinking cursor at the top left of your screen? If so, that suggests your PC cannot access your system disk.

The first thing I would suggest is that you check you can see something meaningful on your system disk.
Please download and create Kyhi's boot disk (Win 10 PE) from the top of the Software and Apps section here.

Boot your PC from that- into its version of Win 10.

From the utilities that provides, please
a. use file explorer and see if you can see anything on your system disk.
b. run Minitool Partition Wizard and post a screenshot of your partitions on your system disk and others. Make sure columns are expanded to show all text.

c. Run HD Tune (Health tab) and post a screenshot of that.

You could also try disconnecting all disks other than your system disk and rebooting and see what happens. There my well be no change.

- when you used that did you click 'Repair your computer' or start the installation procedure?
If the latter, this may have made changes to your OS, if that was accessible to it.

I am presuming you don't, as we continually and strongly recommend, yet use disk imaging routinely. If you did, you would have a relatively easy way to recover, possibly without technical help, assuming no basic H/W problem.

I burned the file recommended into a DVD..

But after I try to boot from the DVD this is the error message I get (pic attached)

I have 16GB RAM installed and recognized on the BIOS and also tested them for erros one by one on each slot and found nothing.

 

What happened between September and December?

1) What hardware changes were made to the computer?
2) How old is the computer?
3) Which parts are original and which parts have been replaced?
4) What is the history of the drive?
a) were there problems with chkdsk running on boot?
b) paging errors?
c) bad blocks?
d) is it HD or SSD?
5) Are the files backed up?
6) Had a backup image been made with Macrium, Acronis or similar software?
7) If you had to perform a clean install deleting partitions, formatting the drive, making an unallocated drive, reinstalling windows 10 would you be able to do it now?
8) Update the system specs in the "My Computer" section:

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, etc.)

When booting with a windows 10 iso it takes about 5 - 10 minutes for it to fully load while viewing the Windows icon.
Were you able to see if the menu appeared after allowing a long wait for it to load?
See what happens if you boot to the iso in the late evening and view it again in the AM. Does the windows icon change to the menu?

Please clarify: you do or do not have a back up image?

If you have a backup image then the drive could be cleaned without causing any harm as you could restore the image?

See if you can boot using a flash drive for Memtest86+ version 5.01

If you can boot please run the Memtest86 + version 5.01 for 8 or more passes.
Memtest86+ version 5.01 is not run by time but by passes.
The more the passes the better the test.
It sometimes takes 20 or more passes to find malfunctioning RAM.
Just 1 error is a fail and you can abort testing.
Then remove all RAM modules and test 1 at a time in the same DIMM to differentiate good from bad RAM.
When it has completed use a camera or smart phone camera to take a picture and post an image into the thread.

If you have fast boot or ultra fast boot enabled in your UEFI firmware settings, then you will need to temporarily disable fast boot or ultra fast boot to be able to boot from a USB.

1. Try another USB stick
2. Try all USB ports (2.0 and 3.0)
3. Maybe when using UEFI Bios you have to temporarily switch to Legacy in BIOS settings
4. Turn off temporarily fast boot, secure boot, CSM if enabled
