Prevent Windows from changing power plan/sleep options/fast start-up?

    Hallo!

Windows 10 (Build 18363) keeps resetting several settings after each logout/reboot.

    In the new Settings interface:

    • Sleep: set to "Never", keeps resetting to 30 minutes
    • Power mode: set to "Best performance", keeps resetting to "Better performance"

In the Power Options control panel:

    • Preferred plans: set to "Ultimate performance", keeps resetting to "Balanced (recommended)"
    • via "Choose what the power buttons do" > Turn on fast start-up: unchecked, keeps getting enabled

Windows 10 Enterprise, days-old install from official image, drivers etc. all through Windows Update, no tuning tools or additional crapware from the hardware manufacturers. I tried everything I could find through Google, including disabling hibernation through the shell, various GP settings, sfc /scannow and that dism thing.

Is there any way to keep Windows from changing those settings? Most importantly sleep and fast start-up, since they seem to cause issues with my not-so-well-aged soundcard (SoundBlaster X-FI HD), ie. sound being unavailable after resuming from either sleep or this semi-hibernation start-up thing.

Will post hardware specs if requested.

    Thank you very much!

    Power plan?

Upon checking, it seems that there's nothing wrong with your system. It is usual that you have to double-click your mouse before your monitor wakes up.

For the meantime, we suggest changing the power plan by following the steps below:

    • Press Windows key + S.
    • Type in Power Settings.
    • On the pop-up window, choose Additional power settings.
    • Select High performance.

After changing the power plan, we suggest that you monitor the changes made and check if that will work for you.

Get back to us if you need further help.

Restart the system and check if the issue still persists.

We would also like you to open command prompt (Admin) after the PC wakes up. (Type in Windows search
CMD and then right click on it, select Run as Administrator)

Then type the command as mentioned in the /lastwake & /energy
    section from this Powercfg command-line
    options
    article.

    We await your response.
