Windows 10: Print File output rendered invisible to Wordpad and Notepad in Windows 10

Our company recently switched technical computing to Windows 10 from Windows 7. Before that, it had been on Windows X/P. The software we developed ran nicely on earlier Windows and still runs nicely on Windows 10. It has numerous Fortran executables, dynamic link libraries and a graphic user interface written in C# and Visual Basic to construct user batch run streams from these various assemblies.


On Windows 10, however, an anomaly came up. Print files created with standard windows redirection commands:


Program > outputfile


would have blocks of "missing" output. Where it should be, one would find blocks of white space when viewed with Notepad or Wordpad. In fact, further investigation showed that the output is not really missing but a special character seems to be generated which puts the train of characters in limbo for these standard text editor/viewers. Furthermore, simply rerunning the program may eliminate the issue - on that particular occasion. I tell our users to do exactly that if the whited output is important.


Once again, this only happens with Windows 10; not any of its predecessors and not with the O/S versions used on our technical server. Has anyone else encountered this? I would love to provide an example - but do not see a provision for this.

Can not print from Notepad or Wordpad.

There are lots of factors that we need to consider why you're having issue printing Notepad or Wordpad files.
To narrow down the issue, we'd like to ask a few questions:

• When did it start happening?
• Where there any changes to your computer prior to the issue?
• What are the exact error messages or codes, if there's any?
• Have you also tried the printing troubleshooter? In case you still haven't, you can follow the troubleshooting steps in this
  article and check if performing it makes any difference.

wordpad notepad

Sorry but they are not. I've been trying to find WordPad on Windows 10. The only things listed under Windows Accessories are Internet Explorer and Notepad. None of the suggestions which came up when I googled the problem worked. I downloaded something
called Wordpad 10, but all that does is present a black screen and won't open any *.rtf or *.doc files. How do I get hold of this elusive prog?

I went to use WordPad today but am unable to find it in apps. Scrolling down the list it doesn't list notepad or WordPad as an app. I tried to ask Cortana to open it by saying "open WordPad" all I get as a response is her say open what app. looking at the
speechbox it seems to recognise what I am saying I couldn't get her to open any apps try calculator as well . She did suggest sites on how to open WordPad. In the end I went through file explorer and found a shortcut to WordPad but why isn't it listed as an
app ?
