Windows 10: Printer Driver Brother DCP-J4120DW

Following a catastrophic failure of my hard drive I replaced it and did a fresh install of Windows 10 on my Acer laptop. I'm not a novice at this sort of thing and everything went smoothly but for one thing, the Microsoft driver for the Brother DCP-J4120DW printer didn't work as it should.I checked the printer settings and found nothing wrong, I also checked out what I could of the driver settings and found nothing obvious so I downloaded and installed the Brother driver from their website and everything now works fine but I'm the curious type who doesn't like it when things go wrong and I can

Windows 10S Brother printer DCP-195C will not work

My printer is a Brother DCP-197C and before I read about the Windows 10 Update 'stopping printing' issue, I downloaded the latest device drivers and printer software (DCP-197C on Windows 10) from the Brother website. I followed the Brother website instructions
to uninstall all of the previous Brother printer software, including the device driver(s), and started from scratch; everything is reinstalled, so I know that my printer software is up to date. BUT the Brother DCP-197C still would not work and that is when
I trawled the internet and found these posts about the Windows 10 Update 'stopping printing' issue. De-installing the Windows Update, following the advice in these posts, solved my problem BUT all my printer software is now up to date.

You might want to do the same thing; de-install the driver(s) and software for your printer, then re-install the latest Windows 10 versions from the Brother website to see if this solves your problem on Windows 10.

There may also be a third Windows 10 Update, not mentioned in these posts yet, that is causing perfectly OK printers to stop printing.

 

Do I need both copies of my printer (Brother DCP J715W) on Windows 10?

One is automatically installed by the system, and the other is installed by the driver of the printer. Usually we can keep a printer.

We can check if the printer ports of the both printer copies are the same in printer properties.

If their printer ports are the same, we keep Brother DCP-J715W Printer and delete the other one.

If their printer ports are different, we keep the printer that works well by our testing(It is best to keep Brother DCP-J715W Printer).

• What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?
• Which version and OS build number of Windows 10 is currently installed? To check, press the
  Windows key, type winver, and press the
  Enter key.
• Have you tried to download and install the latest driver for your printer from the manufacturer's website?
• Do you receive any error messages?
• What program are you using to scan files?
