Windows 10: Printer driver lacks functionality

I'm using an Epson printer (Workforce WF-3640). When I open Printer Preferences, I'm presented with a very limited set of options. I'm not sure how long ago this changed, but I do recall that I had full set of options at one stage.


For example, I used to be able to select how many pages of a document to print on each A4 page. That's no longer available.


My current issue is that I have printer paper in Cassette 1 (10cm X 15cm) and A4 paper in Cassette 2. I've set up the printer so that it knows the size of paper in each cassette. However, when I try to print an A4 document, it will only select Cassette 1, where the printer paper is located.


When I looked up the printer troubleshooting page, it's telling me to open Printer Preferences. However the driver is not showing me the full range of options as I mentioned at the start.


Since this used to work, I assume the driver has been updated at some stage. Would that be part of a Windows 10 update?


Another change that has occurred is that I upgraded from a Lenovo laptop using Windows 10 to an HP laptop also using Windows 10. Is it possible that the HP laptop is using a different version of the driver?

• How exactly did you try to download the drivers?
• Did you try to check if the printer driver's are shown in the device manager?

Let's try the following steps and check if it helps:

Step 1: Run Hardware and device Troubleshooter.

• Type troubleshooting in the search bar and select it.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Hardware and device
  troubleshooter.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
• Check if issue persists.

Step 2: I suggest you to visit the manufacturer website of the printer and download and install the latest drivers and check if it helps.

• If you're having an issue downloading the driver for your printer, can you please tell us how do you download the its driver? Kindly provide us the step-by-step process on how you do it.
• Are you encountering an error message when you attempt to download the driver for your printer? We strongly recommend that you post a screenshot of the issue here for us to further investigate your concern.
• If the issue is with the printer itself, are you having a problem in printing or scanning? What is happening when you attempt to print or scan?

Please try the below suggestion provided and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1.

I would suggest you to run Printer troubleshooter and check if it helps.

• 
  Type troubleshooting on the search bar and click on
  Troubleshooting.
  
• 
  Click on Troubleshooting and click on print on
  printer Hardware and Sound.
  
• 
  Click on Advanced on the Printer troubleshooter dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).
  
• 
  Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the Printer troubleshooter.
  

If the issue still persist try the below information provided.

Method 2.

In certain cases installing updated driver won’t work, so I suggest you to uninstall the printer driver and then reinstall the latest driver from the manufacturer website in compatibility mode. Follow the steps:

Step 1.

  Press Windows key + R.
  
• 
  Type devmgmt.msc in the box and hit
  Enter.
  
• 
  Go to Printer queues and uninstall the
  driver.
  

Step 2.

  Download the latest printer driver from the manufacturer’s website.
  
• 
  Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select Properties.
  
• 
  Select Compatibility tab.
  
• 
  Check Run this program in Compatibility mode.
  
• 
  Let the driver install and then check the functionality.
