Windows 10: Printer only connects some of the time

For the past 2-3 weeks, both my work printer and home printer will sometimes connect, and sometimes not. When this happens, the printer shows as "offline." The troubleshooter does not help at all, as the printer is not being connected to in order to check the troubleshooting items.


Rebooting my computer does not resolve the issue. I can only assume this was a result of a recent MS update?


I am a computer tech, and have tried all relevant resolutions I can think of - including uninstalling the devices, and attempting to re-install them. However, when I experience this issue which has been about 65% of the time, I cannot re-install the device, as it doesn't "see" the device on my network. Therefore, I'm assuming it has something to do with the printer service not seeing, or being blocked from networking.


This problem is causing major issues with my employment as printing is a necessary function of my management position.


I would very much appreciate assistance with this as soon as possible.

To help you with your concern regarding the printer, let me suggest you to contact the manufacturer for the steps on how to connect your printer to your computer. Please follow the steps on how to contact the manufacturer:

• The name of the OEM + “contact information”
• The name of the OEM + “PC support”

Printer visible on network but can't connect

Well I had done all of the suggested steps but in wrong order. I updated router firmware, but still couldn't see printer. When I then reinstalled the new driver I had downloaded, it located the printer and all is now running fine. How complex this can get!

Have you tried the suggestions on my initial post, in response to the original poster? If you haven't performed any troubleshooting yet, here are a couple of things you can try:

• Power off, and then power on your printer to restart it. Wait for a while for it to be fully ready.
• Check your printer connection. Check your printer and make sure that it’s connected to your PC network.
