    Printing Problem

    Hi,
Installed Windows 10. I hate it. Bring back XP. That rant is for another day. Because of this install, I've lost the ability to print anything anywhere. Device manager says the printer is functioning fine. If I, for example, try to print a 225K jpeg, I look at the job and is says it's trying to print a job of 42MB. What??? If I try to print a workpad doc, a window comes up telling me that workpad app has stopped and needs to close out. What??? There's an old job of 4 pdf's that won't print. It says it's 26MB. However, it's only 325K. What??? No matter what these numbers say, no printing occurs. I've tried: restarting the PC, stopping and starting the spooler service and powering down the computer and printer. Any suggestions? I'd like to retrograde to 8 right now, please.

    :)

  3. Printer issues in Windows 10

Thank you for your attention to my problem. When win10 was downloaded my problem started and I find that any print command over the internet causes the delay problem. If it is a print command for something on the hard drive it prints immedely. I tried what
you suggested and it did not solve the problem. Thanks again.

    Printing Problem

Hello and welcome mic I have just installed 10 after many years with 7 and avoiding it until the bugs and other stuff have been fixed up so I can understand your frustration but I think given a little persistence we might be able to get this sorted as I am more into hardware than other stuff.

Now mate not knowing much about your setup it is hard to advise you what to do ie what is your printer and have you updated the driver from the manufacturer because I do not have much faith in the Windows driver update system especially in 7 in here it is a little more advanced. So for starters the printer model please and just a few more specs.

You mentioned the Device Manager have you looked in the Control Panel > Devices and Printers ? see my pic for what you should see. By the by I have cleared a lot of the clutter like those app panels away and set Control Panel, Command prompt, This PC, Downloads, msconfig as the only few things on the desktop it makes it a little usable

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have a Dell AIO 948. The printer icon does have the green check mark. I've gone to Dell's site, and they say they do not have drivers for Windows 10 for all printers. Mine's older, so maybe it won't work. The PC I have is less than a year old. But the printer is a hold over from my last PC. Perhaps I'm out of luck. Quite annoying.

  6. Hi:

Yep, unfortunately, the printer manufacturers do not bother to publish Win10-compatible drivers for very old hardware.
(Over the years, HP has supported their older printers pretty well -- I just passed along to a friend an 11-year old HP AIO I had run under XP, Vista and 7, for which there are drivers even for Win10!)

You can get a decent inkjet printer pretty cheap nowadays. (They make their $ not from the hardware, but from the ink/toner.)

I've had good luck over the years with HP AIOs, but there are other options, of course.

    Cheers,
    MM

I have an HP all in one, an "officejetpro" 6830.
I had to send it in for repair twice this year. The printer head goes bad, and that was not my only problem.
HP extended my warranty for free, which was nice, but I assume it is because they fear consumer rebellion.
IMO if you want a reliable printer, get a Brother, and the rule of thumb is that laser has less to break than inkjet, so it's more reliable.
That's assuming you don't need to print in color, because laser with color is expensive.
    just my two cents.
MoxieMommy has more experience than me.

  8. Printing Problem

Hi you can get a brand new HP Pinter for under £60 and it is a good one you also get 3 months free ink
You get a disc to set it up either cable or WI-FI and also once it is all set up via WI-FI you can also print from any smart phone or ipad anywhere in the house/ or office.
As the above poster as put you get good service, I have had several other makes over the years but would not go for any other make of printer if and when I have to replace this one
They work well with windows 10 and they do keep there drivers up to date.
On yours have you gone to their site to see if they have drivers for windows 8 or 8.1 as they will work ok

Sorry late reply mate but I think Moxie and the others have already said it printers are not real expensive myself I use an HP Officejet 8600 at my place and a HP Officejet 6700 at my partners place and have had no problems with either. I used to run Canons until the inks and bugs began to get really annoyingly expensive and just plain annoying - not to mention noisy.

Anyway it is probably the only way out of your situation and it is your budget as to what you get - suffice to say in my experience the cheaper the printer the dearer the inks and vice versa so I personally would head for a middle ground priced one and HP are as good as any actually I found the HP's easier to set up and they virtually set themselves up anyway.

  11. I second the vote for HP. But I do have a brother color laser printer that works well too. But normally I go HP for all my printing needs.

    Hi,
Thanks for the responses. I'm still quite frustrated over the last of support from Dell. But I also understand. Printers are relatively cheap, and it's time to get something new. I don't do a lot of printing, So I'm not in need of a high end box. I bought an HP Envy 5530 for $60. Pretty good deal at Best Buy. Looks like it'll serve my needs. Thanks again.

I have an older white Dell 1110 laserjet that was given to me 4 or 5 years ago, works fine on Win10 with drivers from Windows Update. Our church had a newer one that wasn't supposed to work on Win8.1 [had no software for it] but it mostly worked except started picking up 2 sheets and printing on the wrong one, was supposed to print checks. Upgraded to Win10 and it got worse so we got a new Dell E-310dw, problem solved. In shopping we did notice Dell no longer sells their own inkjets, has Canon products on their Web site.
