Windows 10: Problem associated with update KB4038788

I am experiencing the same repetitive problem as the rest of the people on this forum. Windows update KB4038788 causes Lockheed Martin P3D V3.4.9 to constantly CTD when the loading is 100% complete just before loading into the game. I have tried an enormous amount of potential fixes. First I tried to reinstall what i thought was the troublesome addon to no success. Second I reinstalled the simconnect platform multiple times. Third I downgraded to an older version of the flightsim (V3.4.14) again no success. And finally I have come across people having problems with KB4038788 and i tried to uninstall the update. However the very annoying part comes now as I attempted to uninstall the update for it to only say An error has occurred. Not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled. I tried many fixes to this none of them have worked and I finally tries the CMD solution posted on this form only for it to give error 0x80073712 The component store has been corrupted. So I have nothing left to do besides a reinstall which i really dont want to do. Does anyone have any ideas?

Please open Command Prompt as a administrator and execute following command:

Code: Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth[/quote] This command will repair corrupted component store.

 

Thank you for the quick reply. I tried this and at 94.8% it stops and says error 0x800f081f Source files could not be found.

The above command will not work if Windows Update service not working correctly. You will be prompted to use /source parameter to specify the location of the files that are require to restore the damage or missing files.






The Install.wim is the source of where these corrupted or missing files located.
The Windows Imaging Format (WIM) is a file-based disk image format. It was developed by Microsoft to help deploy Windows Vista and subsequent versions of Windows operating system family.
The following command can be executed to extract corrupted or missing Windows Component Store files.

Code: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:WIM:X:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess[/quote] Replace the X:\Sources folder path with a folder path where Install.wim image file is stored.
The /LimitAcess parameter tells DISM utility to not to use Windows Update service to retrieve corrupted or missing files.
The /Index parameter tells DISM utility to retrieve the corrupted or missing files from which edition of Windows OS. The Install.wim file can contain more than one edition of the Windows OS. You can execute following command to found out index number of your Windows OS edition that you want to repair.

Code: Dism /Get-WimInfo /Wimfile:"L:\sources\install.wim"[/quote]



Replace the L:\sources with directory path where Install.wim stored. As you can see there is two editions of Windows 10 and all have index number.
